Майстер-клас «Калейдоскоп новорічних прикрас»

19 грудня у творчій лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab» відбувся черговий майстер-клас для дорослих та дітей з використанням 3D-ручок за темою «Калейдоскоп новорічних прикрас».

Захід був приурочений до святкування Нового Року та Різдва.Учасники дізналися про правила користування 3D-ручками, вибрали пластик різного кольору та шаблони новорічних прикрас.

Діти та дорослі з користю провели час, намалювали багато різноманітних новорічних прикрас, зокрема ялинку, Діда Мороза, ялинкові прикраси тощо, які взяли із собою.

Master class «Kaleidoscope of Christmas decorations»

On December 19, the Window on America Library Resource Center hosted another workshop for adults and children using 3D pens on the theme "Kaleidoscope of Christmas decorations " as part of the Mykolaiv FabLab Creative Lab.

The event was timed to celebrate New Year and Christmas. In the beginning, participants learned the rules of using 3D pens, selected plastic of different colors and patterns of Christmas decorations.

Children and adults have spent a lot of time drawing lots of different Christmas decorations, including Christmas tree, Santa Claus, Christmas tree decorations, etc., which the participants brought with them.

Guests of the event are looking forward to a new meeting.

Старт ІІ раунду Жіночого кар`єрного клубу!

15 грудня у центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася перша зустріч у рамках ІІ раунду Жіночого кар’єрного клубу, ініційованого Американським домом у м. Києві.

Учасниці познайомилися з фасилітаторкою клубу та добрим другом центру і бібліотеки Зоєю Кучеревою, із книгою Ранії Андерсен та визначили правила ефективного спілкування під час зустрічей. Також Зоя озвучила правила, які прописані у книзі Ранії Андерсен, порадила на що звертати увагу, як працювати з робочим зошитом.

Жінки, які зібралися, були різні за професіями і поглядами. У нашій групі психолог, викладач англійської мови, сервіс-менеджер, програміст тощо. Але усі вони активні, відповідальні, прагнуть розвивати лідерські та професійні навички та змінити своє життя.

Одна з учасниць попереднього раунду Жіночого кар`єрного клубу Альона Колодко спеціально до цього заходу записала відео, в якому вона розповіла про зміни, що сталися у її житті після участі у клубі.

Сподіваємося, що дана зустріч стане поштовхом до змін у житті наших учасниць, а про перші результати ми дізнаємося під час другої зустрічі.

Start of the ІІ round of Women's Career Club!

On December 15, the Window on America Center held the first meeting of ІІ round of the Women's Career Club, initiated by the American House in Kyiv.

Today the participants got acquainted with the club's facilitator and a good friend of the center and the library Zoya Kuchereva, with Rania Andersen's book and defined the rules of effective communication during the meetings. Zoya voiced the rules outlined in Rania Andersen’s book, advised on what aspects to pay attention and how to work with an exercise book.

Participating women are different in professions and attitudes. There are a psychologist, English teacher, service manager, programmer and others in our group. But they are all active, responsible and strive to develop leadership and professional skills, change their lives.

One of the participants in the preliminary round of the Women's Career Club, Alona Kolodko, specifically for this event, recorded a video in which she told about the changes in her life after participating in the club.

We hope that this meeting and the club will become the impetus for changes in the lives of our participants, and we will learn about the first changes in a month, during the second meeting.

Зустрічволонтерів «З добром до людей!»

8 грудня у бібліотечному ресурсному центр «Вікно в Америку» відбулася зустріч волонтерів «З добром до людей!»,приурочена до Міжнародного дня волонтера. На свято завіталиволонтери Центру, серед яких – випускники програм для майбутніх лідерів FLEX, студенти миколаївських вищих навчальних закладів та американські волонтери, представники Peace Corps в Україні. За плідну працю та активну підтримку діяльності Центру волонтери отримали подарунки на пам'ять та рекламну продукцію бібліотеки і Центру.

Під час заходу учасники переглянули та обговорили короткі відеоролики англійською мовою «Переваги волонтерства» та «Чому волонтерство є важливим?», взяли участь у створенні «серця волонтерів». Приємним сюрпризом для учасників стало відеопривітання від учасників та волонтерів Яни Алімової та Олега Попова, які зараз перебувають за волонтерськими програмами у Німеччині та США.

Під час заходу присутні почули про досвід навчання та роботи Альони Павленко, яка здобула ступінь магістра в одному з університетів штату Массачусетс та працювала там протягом 1 року за спеціальністю.

Наприкінці заходу учасники обговорили результати волонтерської діяльності та плани на майбутнє. Сподіваємося, що плідна співпраця Центру і волонтерів буде тривати й надалі, а коло волонтерів розширюватиметься.

Volunteers' meeting “With kindness to people”

On December 8, the Window on America Library Resource Center held a Volunteers’ meeting “With kindness to people”, which was dedicated to International Volunteer Day. Volunteers of the Center came to the holiday, including alumni ofFLEX program, students ofMykolaiv higher educational universities and American volunteers - representatives of Peace Corps in Ukraine. For their fruitful work and active support of the Center's activities, volunteers received pleasant gifts for the memory and advertising of the library and the center.

During the event, participants watched and discussed short English videos "Benefits of Volunteering" and "Why is Volunteering Important?", participated in the creation of "Volunteers’ Heart" game. A pleasant surprise for the participants was the video greetings from participants and volunteers Yana Alimova and Oleg Popov, who are currently volunteering in Germany and Texas.

During the event, attendees heard about the Alona Pavlenko’slearning and work experience, who received a master's degree from one of the universities inMassachusetts and worked for one year in the specialty.

At the end of the event, participants discussed the results of volunteer work and plans for the future. We hope that the fruitful cooperation between the Center and the volunteers will continue and the circle of volunteers will expand.

Презентація програми GlobalUndergraduate Exchange Program 2020-21 рр.

27 листопада в інформаційно-ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася презентація програми Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2020-21 рр. для студентів 1-3 курсів миколаївських університетів. Захід було організовано за сприяння помічниці аташе з питань освіти та культури Посольства США в Україні Вікторії Михайленко, та старшого радника центру EducationUSA в Україні Єлизавети Щепетильникової.

Відвідувачі під час заходу дізналися, що ця програма надає можливість майбутнім лідерам навчатися у США протягом одного академічного семестру з метою поглиблення знань та вивчення культури і традицій США, а також отримали інформацію про особливості подання документів, участі у даній програмі та відповіді на запитання.

Програма фінансується та адмініструється урядом Сполучених Штатів Америки та організацією World Learning та надає повну стипендію для студентів 1-3 курсів бакалаврських програм для навчання в університетах та коледжах США протягом одного семестру за будь-якими спеціальностями без отриманняступеня.

Більш детально учасники дізналисяпро основні критерії відбору учасників програми та документи, що слід підготувати для розгляду вашої кандидатури. Також було наголошено, що на будь-якому етапі кандидати можуть отримати консультацію від центру EducationUSA в Україні.

Presentation of the program Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2020-21

On November 27, the presentation of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2020-21 for 1-3 year students of Mykolaiv universities took place at the Window on America Information Resource Center. The event was organized with the promotion of the Assistant Attaché for Education and Culture of the US Embassy in Ukraine, Victoria Mykhailenko, and Senior Advisor of the EducationUSA Center in Ukraine, Elizabeth Shchepetylnykova.

Visitors learned during the event that this program gives future leaders the opportunity to study in the US for one academic semester in order to deepen their knowledge and study of US culture and traditions, and received information on the specifics of filing, participating in the program, and answering questions.

The program is funded and administered by the United States Government and World Learning organization, and provides a full scholarship for 1-3 year students of bachelor programs to study at US universities and colleges for one semester in any specialties without a degree.

In more detail, visitors learnt about the main eligibility criteria for the program participants and the documents that should be prepared for the application. It was also emphasized that at any stage candidates can consult with the EducationUSA Center in Ukraine.

«Толерантність серед молоді та підлітків»

14 листопада в Інформаційно-ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбувся діалоговий майданчик за участіучнів старших класів Миколаївської загальноосвітньої школи І-ІІІ ступенів №7 з практичнимпсихологом Надією Касьяновою за темою «Толерантність серед молоді та підлітків», присвячена Міжнародному дню толерантності.

Захід пройшов у тренінговому форматі, учні обговорили важливість толерантності в сучасному світі, розглянули види толерантності, розкрили характеристики толерантної та інтолерантної людини, обговорили причини та можливі наслідки не толерантного поводження з іншими людьми, зосередилися на дотриманнітолерантної поведінки серед підлітків.

Під час зустрічі учням булопродемонстровано декілька коротких відео роликів, після яких вони разом з психологом проаналізували представлені ситуації з позиції іншої людини.

"Tolerance among Youth and Adolescents"

On November 14, a dialogue platform was held at the Window on America Information Resource Center with the participation of the high school students of Mykolaiv Secondary School#7 with practical psychologist Nadiya Kasianova on the topic "Tolerance among Youth and Adolescents" dedicated to Tolerance International Day.

The event took place in a training format, the students discussed the importance of tolerance in the modern world, examined the types of tolerance, revealed the characteristics of a tolerant and intolerant person, discussed the causes and possible consequences of non-tolerant treatment of others, focused on tolerance.

During the meeting, students were shown several short videos, after which they, together with a psychologist, analyzed the presented situations from another person's position.

«Хеловін-вечірка»

7 листопада у рамках відзначення американського свята Хеловін в Інформаційно-ресурсному центрі міжнародного партнерства відбуласяігрова сесія, лідером якої була учасниця програми Fullbright, викладачка кафедрианглійської філології Інституту філології Чорноморського національного університету імені Петра Могили Соня Геба. У заході взяли участь активні відвідувачі бібліотеки та центру.

На початку вечірки учасники дізналися про історію та традиції святкування Хеловіна в Америці та інших англомовних країнах,переглянули та обговорили декілька тематичних відеороликів.

Присутні взяли участь у бліц-вікторині «Хеловін» та грі «Вірю-не вірю», під час якихзгадали різноманітні цікаві факти про це свято. Гості ігровоїсесії представили та взяли участь у конкурсі костюмів.

«Halloween Party»

On November 7, as part of the celebration of the Halloween American holiday at the International Partnership Resource Center, a gamesession was held by Sonya Geb, a member of the Fullbright program, a lecturer at the Department of English Philology at the Black Sea Institute of Philology of the Black Sea National University.

In the beginning, participants learned about the history and traditions of celebrating Halloween in America and other English-speaking countries, watched and discussed several thematic videos.

Participants also took part in the Halloween Blizzard Quiz and the "Believe or not Believe" game, during which they mentioned a variety of interesting facts about the holiday, the party guests presented and participated in a costume contest.

Active visitors of the library and the center took part in the event.

Медіаурок «Молоді й медіаграмотні»

5 листопада у рамках реалізації локального проекту бібліотеки «Людина Медіаграмотна» у центрі «Вікно в Америку» для студентів кафедри журналістики Інституту філології Чорноморського національного університету імені Петра Могили відбувся медіаурок «Молоді і медіаграмотні».

Під час заходу учасники проаналізували своє медіаполе, обговорили журналістські стандарти щодо розвинення навичок медіаграмотності та критичного мислення, дізналися, що таке маніпуляція, пропаганда, попрацювали в групах і навчилися відрізняти фейкові новини від справжніх тощо. Окрім того, учасники вчилися відрізняти факти від суджень, аналізували алгоритми роботи соціальних мереж. Також студенти у групах розробили, презентували та проаналізували фейкові новини, що могла б зацікавити молодь: це були безкоштовні туристичні поїздки для студентської молоді, гарна робота за кордоном з високою зарплатнею, готова магістерська робота, допомога у здачі мовних тестів тощо.

Окрім того, учасникам тренінгу були презентовані інформаційні продукти: інтерактивний підручник для підлітків «МедіаДрайвер» (громадської організації «Детектор медіа»), гра «Медіаграмотна місія» (IREX, Академії української преси та StopFake), збірник вправ з медіаграмотності «Медіанавігатор» (Академії української преси, громадської організації «Детектор медіа»).

Сподіваємося, що даний захід допоможе молоді змінити підхід до сприйняття та оцінки інформації, помітити її однобокість або цензуру, усвідомити потенційну маніпуляцію і, як результат, – стати ще більш медіаграмотними.

Media lesson «Young and Media Literate people»

On November 5, a media lesson "Young and media literate people" was held as part of the implementation of the local project of the library "The man of media literacy" at the Window on America Center for students of journalism department of the Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University.

During the event, participants analyzed their media field, discussed journalistic standards, how to develop media literacy and critical thinking skills, learned what manipulation, propaganda, worked in groups and learned to distinguish fake news from real news. In addition, participants learned how to distinguish facts from judgments, analyzed social networking algorithms, and how a television channel owner influences their policies. Also, students in groups developed, presented and analyzed fake news that could be of interest to young people. These were free tourist trips for student youth, "good" work abroad with a high salary, a master's thesis, assistance in passing language tests, etc.

In addition, information products were presented to the training participants: an interactive textbook for teens "MediaDriver" (public organization "Media Detector"), the game "Media Literacy Mission" (IREX, Ukrainian Press Academy and StopFake), a collection of media grammatical exercises the Ukrainian press, the public organization "Media Detector").

We hope that this event will help the youth to change the approach to perception and evaluation of information, to notice its one-sidedness or censorship, to realize potential manipulation, and as a result - to become even more media literate!

Перегляд та обговоренняхудожнього американського фільму «Перемикаючи канали»

30 жовтня в Інформаційно-ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» у рамках Тижня медійної та інформаційної грамотності було організовано перегляд та обговоренняамериканського художнього фільму «Перемикаючи канали» (1988).

Фільм розповідаєпро відому і популярну журналістку кабельного каналу новин «SNN» Крісті Коллеран, якавирішує залишити свою дуже напружену роботу, щоб вийти заміж за багатого бізнесмена Блейна. Але її начальник і одночасно колишній чоловік Джоннамагається зірвати її плани. Він змушує її зробити останній телевізійний репортаж про засудженого Айке, якого ось-ось повинні стратити на електричному стільці, щоб тим самим можливо врятувати його життя. Занадто захопившись репортажем, Крісті в результаті забуває про своє майбутнє заміжжя.

Під час заходу відвідувачі обговорили ряд питань, присвячених медіа: якою має бути політика телеканалів, як на неї впливають власники, чи впливають ток-шоу та розважальні шоу на рівень медійної грамотності, яких новин більше на телебаченні – правдивих чи рейкових, чиможе бути телеканал незалежним та ін.

Учасники заходу дійшли висновку, що кожна людина має право вибирати та отримувати правдиву інформацію з різних джерел.

Watching and discussing the feature American movie "Switching Channels"

On October 30, a watching and discussing of the feature-length American movie "Switching Channels" (1988) was organized at the Window on America Information and Resource Center.

The film tells the story of the well-known and popular SNN cable news journalist Christy Colleran, who decides to leave her very hard work to marry a rich businessman, Blaine. But her boss and, at the same time, her ex-husband, John, is not going to give up so easily and try to frustrate her plans. He is forcing her to make the latest television report about a convicted Aike, who is about to be killed on an electric chair, and thus could save his life. Too fond of reporting, Christy eventually forgets about her future marriage.

During the event, visitors discussed a number of media issues, including what should be the policies ofTV channels, whether talk shows and entertainment shows the level of media literacy, which news stories are more true or rail, whether TV is independent, and whether television advertising.

The participants of the event concluded that the topic of media and information literacy is relevant in Ukraine, everyone has the right to choose and receive truthful information from different sources.

Тренінг «Медійна грамотність для людей поважного віку»

30 жовтня у рамках реалізації проекту «Медійна грамотність для людей поважного віку» на базі Миколаївської обласної універсальної наукової бібліотекибуло проведено другий тренінг для людей поважного віку. Даний проект ініційований та реалізується громадською організацією «Центр Поділля-Соціум» за підтримки проекту Агентства США з міжнародного розвитку (USAID) «Медійна програма в Україні».

Окрім того, учасникам тренінгу були презентовані інформаційні продукти: інтерактивний підручник для підлітків«МедіаДрайвер» (громадської організації «Детектор медіа»),гра «Медіаграмотна місія» (IREX, Академії української преси та StopFake), збірник вправ з медіаграмотності «Медіанавігатор» (Академії української преси, громадської організації «Детектор медіа»). Усі присутні отримали рекламну продукцію та посібник «Карта медійної грамотності для людей поважного віку».

Сподіваємося, що реалізація даного проекту допоможе людям поважного віку змінити підхід до сприйняття та оцінки інформації, помітити її однобокість або цензуру, усвідомити потенційну маніпуляцію, і як результат – стати ще більш медіаграмотними!

Training “Media Literacy for Senior sitizens”

On October 30, a second training for Senior sitizens was held in the framework of the project "Media Literacy for Senior sitizens" at the Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library. This project was initiated and is being implemented by thepublic organization“Podillya-Socium Center”with the support of the (USAID) International Media Program in Ukraine.

During the training, participants analyzed their media field, discussed how media literacy and critical thinking skills can be developed, learned what manipulation, propaganda, worked in groups and learned to distinguish fake news from real news. In addition, participants worked in groups, designed and presented fake news that might interest people of high age. After that, they analyzed why people of good age come across such hooks.

In addition, the training participants were presented information products: an interactive textbook for teens "MediaDriver" (public organization "Media Detector"), the game "Media Literacy Mission" (IREX, Ukrainian Press Academy and StopFake), a collection of media grammatical exercises the Ukrainian press, the public organization "Media Detector"). Презентація Програми диверсифікаційних віз США 2021

23 жовтня в Інформаційно-ресурсному центрі міжнародного партнерства бібліотеки відбулася презентація Програми диверсифікаційних віз США 2021, відомої також як Лотерея «Green Card». Ця віза надає право на отримання статусу резидента США, тож переможці лотереї можуть жити, працювати і навчатись у Сполучених Штатах Америки.

У заході взяли участь активні відвідувачі бібліотеки та центру, жителі Миколаєва та студенти університетів та коледжів.

Презентацію провіввіце-консул Сполучених Штатів Америки Еммет Тугі.Він розповівпро оновлені правила участі у даній програмі, а такожпояснив, як потрібно діяти, щоб процес звернення за візою США пройшов без ускладнень, зупинився на проблемах, що можуть виникнути, якщо людина вирішила скористатися послугами агенції, яка пропонує свою «допомогу» у процесі звернення та відповів на всі запитання аудиторії.

Presentation of the USA 2021 Diversification Visa Program

On October 23, the Library's International Partnership Information Resource Center hosted a presentation of the 2021 US Diversification Visa Program, also known as the Green Card Lottery. This visa qualifies for US resident status, so lottery winners can live, work and study in the United States of America.

Active visitors ofthe library and center, residents of Mykolaiv and students of universities and colleges took part in the event.

The presentation was made by Vice-Consul of the United States of America Emmet Tuohy. He explained the updated rules for participation in this program, and explained how to act to ensure that the process of applying for a US visa was easy, focused on the problems that may arise if a person decides to use the services of an agency that offers their "help" in process, and answered all questions of the audience.

Undergraduate Boot Camp

19-20 жовтня за сприяння консультативної мережі Education USA (Київ) на базі центру "Вікно в Америку" для школярів 8-10 класів та випускників 2019-2020 років м. Миколаєва відбувся Undergraduate Boot Camp. Тренером виступила радник консультативного центру Education USA (Київ) Американських рад з міжнародної освіти Неллі Петрик.

Це була інтенсивна дводенна програма для тих, хто мріє навчатися в США, під час якої учасники дізналися :

- Чим освіта в США відрізняється від української?;

- Як та де шукати ідеальний коледж в США?;

- Де взяти гроші для оплати свого навчання? Як поїхати навчатися абсолютно безкоштовно?;

- Які кроки приведуть тебе до успішного вступу.

Також учасники попрактикувалися у написанні мотиваційного листа, а саме у тому, що вразить, а не загубиться серед спаму. Окрім того, всі бажаючі отримали персональні рекомендації від радника EducationUSA для вступу в американські університети та коледжі.

За 2дні всі учасники отримали повний чек лист, що потрібно, щоб їхнямрія стала реальністю! А ми чекаємо на історії успіхів учасників заходу.

Undergraduate Boot Camp

On October 19-20, Undergraduate Boot Camp was held with the assistance of the Education USA (Kyiv) advisory network at the Window on America Center for students of grades 8-10 and graduates of 2019-2020 in Mykolaiv, Coach was Nelly Petryck, Advisor to the Education USA (Kyiv) Center for American Councils on International Education

It was an intensive two-day program for those who wanted to study in the US, during which participants learned:

- How is education in the US different from Ukrainian ?;

- How and where to find the perfect college in the US ?;

- Where to get money to pay for your education? How to go to study for free ?;

- What steps will lead you to a successful entry.

Participants also practiced writing a cover letter, namely that it would strike rather than get lost in spam. In addition, everyone has received personal guidance from EducationUSA Advisor for admission to US universities and colleges.

In 2 days, all participants received a full check letter, which is required to make their dream a reality! And we are waiting for the success stories of the participants.

Тренінг «Медійна грамотність для людей поважного віку»

15 жовтня у рамках реалізації проекту «Медійна грамотність для людей поважного віку» фахівці Миколаївської обласної універсальної наукової бібліотеки та представник ГО «Миколаївське регіональне відділення Української бібліотечної асоціації» провели перший тренінг для людей поважного віку на базі бібліотеки. Даний проект ініційований та реалізується громадською організацією «Центр Поділля-Соціум» за підтримки проекту Агентства США з міжнародного розвитку (USAID) «Медійна програма в Україні».

Під час тренінгу учасники проаналізували своє медіаполе, обговорили, як можна розвинути навички медіаграмотності та критичного мислення, дізналися, що таке маніпуляція, пропаганда, попрацювали в групах і навчилися відрізняти фейкові новини від справжніх тощо. Їм були презентовані інформаційні продукти: інтерактивний підручник для підлітків«МедіаДрайвер» (громадської організації «Детектор медіа»),гра «Медіаграмотна місія» (IREX, Академії української преси та StopFake), збірник вправ з медіаграмотності «Медіанавігатор» (Академії української преси, громадської організації «Детектор медіа»). Media Literacy Training for People of Respectable Age

On October 15, specialists of the Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library and a representative of public organization "Mykolaiv Regional Branch of the Ukrainian Library Association" conducted the first training for people of respectable age on the basis of the library. This project was initiated and is being implemented by the public organization “Center Podillya-Socium” with the support of the United States Agency of International Development (USAID) project "Media Program in Ukraine".

During the training, participants analyzed their media fields, discussed how media literacy and critical thinking skills can be developed, learned what manipulation, propaganda, worked in groups and learned to distinguish fake news from real news. They learnt theinformation products: an interactive textbook for teens "MediaDriver" (public organization "Media Detector"), game "Media Literacy Mission" (IREX, Academy of the Ukrainian Press and StopFake), collection of exercises on media literacy "Media Navigator, Media Detector”). All participants received promotional products and a Guide "Media Literacy Map for People of Honor Age".

We hope that the implementation of this project will help people of good age to change the approach to the perception and evaluation of information, to notice its one-sidedness or censorship, to realize the potential manipulation, and as a result - to become even more media literate!

Бесіда «Академічна доброчесність: правила гри чи справа честі?»

8 жовтня у рамках Декади першокурсника Центр міжнародного партнерства відвідали студенти кафедри «Журналістика» Інституту філології Чорноморського національного університету імені Петра Могили та взяли участь у бесіді «Академічна доброчесність: правила гри чи справа честі?». Під час заходу учасники дізналися про реалізацію проекту з академічної доброчесності в Україні, обговорили, чому дотримання принципів доброчесності у навчанні є ключем до якісної освіти та успішної кар’єри. Також присутні зосередилися на причинах плагіату в навчальних закладах,обговорили деякі прояви корупції в цих закладах та розглянули приклади цитування у наукових працях. Окрім того, вони переглянули та обговорили ряд відеороликів, що були подані на конкурс соціальних відеопроектів «Чесність починається з тебе».

Наприкінцізаходу учасники дізналися про бази даних elibraryUSA, освітні можливості в США, можливості з удосконалення та вивчення англійської мовиівиконали декілька інтерактивних вправ.

Conversation «Academic virtue: rules of the game or a matter of honor?»

On October 8, students of the Department of Journalism at the Petro Mohyla Black Sea National Philological Institute visited the Center of International Partnership and participated in the talk "Academic virtue: rules of the game or the matter of honor?" During the event, participants learned about the implementation of the Academic virtue Project in Ukraine, discussed why adherence to the principles of virtue in Education is the key to a quality education and a successful career. Also, the attendees focused on the causes of plagiarism in educational institutions and the positive reasons for not “plagiarism”, discussed some manifestations of corruption in educational institutions and considered examples of citation in scientific works. In addition, they reviewed and discussed a number of videos submitted to the "Honesty starts with you" social video project contest.

At the end of the event, participants learned about elibraryUSA databases, educational opportunities in the United States, English language improvement and learning opportunities, and played some interactive exercises.

Як розпізнати фейкові новини

18 вересня у рамках реалізації проекту «Людина медіаграмотна» працівниками бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» було проведено тренінг «Як розпізнати фейкові новини» для студентів спеціальності «Інформаційна, бібліотечна та архівна справа» Миколаївської філії Київського національного університету культури і мистецтв.

Учасники проаналізували своє медіаполе, обговорили, як можна розвинути навички медіаграмотності та критичного мислення, зосередилися на європейських критеріях підготовки інформаційних матеріалів. Також вони дізналися, що таке «джинса» та маніпуляція на телебаченні, в друкованих та електронних ЗМІ, соціальних мережах.

Окрему увагу було приділено обговоренню таких понять, як «фейки» та «фейкові новини». Студенти розібрали алгоритми їхнього визначення на основі плакатів Української бібліотечної асоціації, музею новин Newseumed, соціальної мережі Facebook тощо.

Крім того, учасникам тренінгу були презентовані гра «Медіаграмотна місія» (IREX, Академії української преси та StopFake), збірник вправ з медіаграмотності «Медіанавігатор» (Академії української преси, громадської організації «Детектор медіа»).

How to recognize fake news

On September 18, within the framework of the Human Media Literacy Project, the staff of the Window on America Library Resource Center conducted a training “How to recognize fake news” for students of the specialty Information, Library and Archival Affairs of the Mykolaiv Branch of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.

The participants analyzed their media field, discussed how media literacy and critical thinking skills can be developed, focused on European criteria for the preparation of information materials. They also learned about jeans and manipulation on television, print and electronic media, and social networks.

Particular attention was paid to discussing such concepts as "fakes" and "fake news." Students analyzed algorithms for their determination based on posters of the Ukrainian Library Association, the Newseumed News Museum, the Facebook social network, etc.

In addition, participants of the training were presented the game "Media Literacy Mission" (IREX, Ukrainian Press Academy and StopFake), a collection of media literacy exercises "Media Navigator" (Ukrainian Press Academy, public organization "Media Detector").

«Адвокація бібліотек»

12 вересня координатором бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» Ларисою Сидоренко було проведено тренінг «Адвокація бібліотек» для студентів спеціальності «Інформаційна, бібліотечна та архівна справа» Миколаївської філії Київського національного університету культури і мистецтв.

Учасники дізналися про те, що таке адвокація і чому вона є важливою, які питання вона може допомогти вирішити, докладно проаналізували етапи та 8 кроків адвокаційної кампанії, стратегії спілкування з потенційною аудиторією та партнерами, а також розглянули приклади успішних адвокаційних кампаній бібліотек.

Крім того, учасники переглянули та обговорили ряд відеороликів за темою заходу.

How to spot fake news

On September 12, Coordinator of the Library Resource Center "Window on America" Larisa Sydorenko conducted a training "Advocacy of Libraries" for students of the specialty "Information, Library and Archival Affairs" of the Mykolaiv Branch of the Kiev National University of Culture and Arts.

Participants learned about what advocacy is and why it is important, what issues it can help solve, thoroughly analyzed the steps and 8 steps of a law firm, strategies for communicating with potential audiences and partners, and reviewed examples of successful library advocacy campaigns.

Тренінг «Дизайн та друкування прикрас у 3D»

12 вересня бібліотечним ресурсним центром «Вікно в Америку» у рамках діяльності творчої лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab» для студентів Миколаївського коледжу культури і мистецтв було проведено тренінг «Дизайн та друкування прикрас у 3D».

Під час заходу учасники дізналися про історію та сучасне використання 3D-друку, розглянули різновиди 3D-принтерів,програмного забезпечення, що використовується під час підготовки 3D-моделей до друку, та технічні особливості даного процесу. Учасникам було презентовано ресурси, на яких вони можуть вільно завантажити готові моделі 3D-прикрас.

Крім того, учасники самостійно спробували створити 3D-моделі дерева, каменя та кулону за допомогою тренера, роздрукувати їх, а також створити ряд прикрас 3D-ручками.

22 серпня за ініціативою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» у рамках студії «Магія 3D», що діє при творчій лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab», відбувся майстер-клас для дітей та дорослих з користування 3D-ручками за темою «Моя Україна – єдина і неповторна».

Захід був присвячений до святкування Дня Незалежності України. На початку заходу учасники дізналися про історію святкування, обговорили туристично-привабливі місця України та висловили побажання для досягнення кращого майбутнього України. Після цього, за допомогою сучасних приладів – 3D-ручок, пластику та шаблонів малювали різноманітні символи України, які взяли з собою на згадку.

Гості заходу залишилися дуже задоволеними проведеним часом у творчій лабораторії та із нетерпінням будуть чекати на нову зустріч.

On August 22, at the initiative of the library resource center «Window on America» within the studio «Magic 3D», which operates at the creative laboratory "Mykolaiv FabLab", held a master class for children and adults using 3D pens on the theme «My Ukraine is the only one and unique».

The event was timed to celebrate Ukraine's Independence Day. At the beginning of the event, participants learned about the history of Independence Day celebrations, expressed why they love Ukraine, what places they would like to visit in the first place to foreigners and what they would like to reach Ukraine soon. Then, with the help of modern instruments - 3D pens, plastic and templates - they drew various symbols of Ukraine, including the Coat of Arms, the flag, the viburnum, mallow, the Cossacks and others, which the participants brought with them in memory.

4 липня за ініціативою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» у рамках студії «Магія 3D», що діє при творчій лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab», відбувся майстер-клас для дорослих та дітей з користування 3D- ручками за темою «Далека та близька Америка».

Захід був приурочений до святкування Дня Незалежності Сполучених Штатів Америки. На початку учасникидізналися проісторію та традиції свята.Потім за допомогоюсучасних приладів – 3D- ручок, пластику та шаблонів –малювали різноманітні символи Сполучених штатів Америки, зокрема Статуя Свободи, національний флаг, білоголовий орлан, мультиплікаційні герої із американських мультфільмів, які учасники взяли з собою.

Гості заходу залишилися дуже задоволеними після проведеного часу у творчій лабораторії та чекають із нетерпінням нової зустрічі.

The event was timed to celebrate Independence Day in the United States. At the beginning participants learned about the history and traditions of the holiday. Then with the help of modern devices - 3D pens, plastic and templates-they made the various symbols of the United States of America, in particular the Statue of Liberty, the national flag, the whitehead eagle, animated cartoon characters from the American cartoons that the participants took with them.

Фінальне засідання жіночого кар’єрного клубу

30 червня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося заключне засідання учасниць «Women’s Career Club», що його модерувала Надія Касьянова.

На цей раз дівчата обговорювали звичку №6 «Станьте лідеркою» з книги Ранії Андерсон «Мене не спинити».Головною темою для обговорення був самоаналіз. Дівчата намагалися зрозуміти, що вони здатні змінити у своєму житті. Вонивідповідали на запитання як стати лідером, що для них найголовніше, на що можна вплинути та що змінити. Зокрема, дівчата зрозуміли, що якщо хтось опирається чи не хоче поводитися по –новому, слід продемонструвати лідерство та допомогти досягти запланованої мети або цілі. Учасниці дійшли висновку, що потрібно слухати, спостерігати та вчитися, висловлювати та пропонувати свої ідеї. Вони обговорювали приклади із власного професійного та приватного життя.

Наприкінці засідання учасницібули нагороджені сертифікатами, які були надані за підтримки Американського Дому в Києві за активну участьжіночого кар’єрного клубу.

Final meeting of Women's career club

On 30 June, the final meeting of the Women's Career Club participants, supervised by Nadiya Kasyanova, took place at the Window on America Library Resource Center.

At this time the girls discussed the habit No.6 "Become a Leader" from Rania Anderson's book "Do not Stop Me". The main topic for discussion was self-examination. The girls tried to understand that they were able to change in their lives. They answered the question of how to become a leader, what is most important to them, what can be influenced and changed. In particular, the girls realized that if someone resists or does not want to behave on a new basis, one should demonstrate leadership and help achieve the intended goal. Participants came to the conclusion that they should listen, watch and study, express and present their ideas. They discussed examples of their own professional and private life.

At the end of the meeting, the participants were awarded with certificates that were provided with the support of the American House in Kyiv for the active participation of the |Women's career club.

Проведено тренінг «Основи архітектурного 3D-моделювання»

5 червня бібліотечним ресурсним центром «Вікно в Америку» у рамках творчої лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab» для студентів Миколаївського будівельного коледжу Київського національного університету будівництва і архітектури було проведено тренінг «Основи архітектурного 3D-моделювання».

Під час заходу учасники дізналися про програму з розробки векторних зображень Corel Draw, 3DSmax для архітекторів, принципи побудови споруд у даних програмах. За допомогою тренера студенти розібралися у перевагах цих програм та порівняли їх з тими програмами, з якими вони працюють у коледжі.

Також учасники заходу дізналися, як вірно візуалізуватиархітектуру в 3DSmax, з чого починати і чого уникати тощо.

У кінці заходу студенти були запрошені стати постійними відвідувачами творчої лабораторії та бібліотеки.

9 червня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання учасниць «Women’s Career Club», що його модерувала Надія Касьянова.

На цей раз дівчата обговорювали звичку №5 «Прискорюйтеся» з книги Ранії Андерсон «Мене не спинити».

Зокрема,вони обговорили, чи потрібно наполегливо і важко працювати для досягнення цілей, як зробити так, щоб власні досягнення були поміченими та відомими, як треба діяти, щоб власний внесок був визнаний. Окрім того. дівчата зосередилися на тому, як покращити професійне становище. Вони розбирали приклади зі свого професійного і приватного життя.

Наприкінці клубу учасниці дійшли висновку, що не треба боятися бути швидкою, оскільки тебе може хтось випередити, рішення потрібно приймати оперативно.

Захід був приурочений до Міжнародного дня захисту дітей, що щороку святкується 1 червня. На початку учасники дізналися про історію та традиції даного свята, розповіли, як вони його святкували та які заходи відвідали напередодні. Також вони поділилися своїми мріями, а мріють вони про мир, подорожі, нові іграшки, щасливі родини та ін. Потім за допомогою сучасних приладів – 3D-ручок, пластику та шаблонів малювали квіти, тварин, природу тощо.

Учасники залишилися дуже задоволеними та чекають із нетерпінням на нову зустріч.

На цей раз дівчата обговорювали звичку №4 «Поєднуйте» з книги Ранії Андерсон «Мене не спинити».

Зокрема, вони обговорили, чи можливо поєднувати досягнення успіху у кар'єрі з успіхом у родині та особистим життям, материнством, а також, як змінилася робота за останні 20 років.

Не обійшли дівчата увагою й обговорення проблеми тиску на них з боку рідних, близьких та колег та питання створення оптимального зовнішнього оточення.

Наприкінці заходу учасники дійшли висновку, що не треба соромитися приймати рішення, та обмінялися думками щодо того, як треба діяти, щоб досягти власного успіху.

Презентація фотовиставки «Americana» у рамках проекту «Gallery on the Go» від Американського дому у м. Київ

14 травня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася презентація фотовиставки «Americana» американського дипломата Евана МакДугалла. Дана експозиція була отримана у рамках проекту «Мандрівна галерея» від Американського домуу м. Київ.

Метою цього проекту було відновити зв’язок з домом. Як дипломат, Еван МакДугалл представляє свій дім, Сполучені Штати, живучи далеко від нього. Ці фотографії були зроблені в 2017 р. під час тривалоївідпустки вдома між двома зарубіжними посадами. МакДугалл відкрив красу своєї країни знову. Завдяки експонованим світлинам присутні змогли віртуально перенестися в надзвичайної краси місця Америки й насолодитися природоюта енергією шумного мегаполіса.

Виставка експонуватиметься до кінця травня.

Presentation of the photo exhibition «Americana» within the framework of the project «Gallery on the Go» from the American House in Kyiv

On May 14, at the library resource center «Window on America» held a photo exhibition «Americana» by the American diplomat, Ewan MacDougall. This exposition was received as part of the «Gallery on the Go» project from the American House in Kyiv.

The purpose of this project was to restore communication with the home. As a diplomat, Ewan MacDougall represents his home, the United States, living far from him. These photos were made in 2017 during a long vacation home between two overseas posts.

So, when Ewan returned to America, he discovered the beauty of his country again. Thanks to the exhibited photographs, the visitors could virtually move to the remarkable beauty of America and enjoy the beauty of nature and the energy of the noisy metropolis.

The exhibition will be shown by the end of May, so everyone will get acquainted with the Ewan’s works.

Тренінг «Основні правила підготовки 3D-моделей до друку»

23 квітня бібліотечним ресурсним центром «Вікно в Америку» у рамках творчої лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab» для студентів ВП "Миколаївський філіал Київського національного університету культури і мистецтв" було проведено тренінг «Основні правила підготовки 3D-моделей до друку».

Під час заходу учасники дізналися про історію та сучасне використання 3D-друку у медицині, будівництві, інженерії, ювілерній промисловості та побуті, розглянули різновиди 3D-принтерів,програмного забезпечення, що використовується під час підготовки 3D-моделей до друку, та технічні особливості даного процесу, переглянули та обговорити ряд коротких відеороликів за темою заходу. Також студентам було презетовано ряд історій успіху у різних сферах життя, що засновані на успіщному використанні 3D- друку.

Окрім того, учасники заходу побачили процеси друкуваннярізних видів об’єктів та їхньої підготовки до друку, а також спробували створити 3D-писанку за допомогою 3D-ручок.

Training «Fundamentals of 3D-scanning»

On April 23, «Fundamentals of 3D-scanning» were conducted for the students of the Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts within the framework of the Creative Laboratory's functioning of the Mykolaiv library resource center «Window on America».

During the event, the participants learned about the history and the current use of 3D printing in medicine, construction, engineering, jewelery industry, and everyday life, reviewed varieties of 3D printers, software used during the preparation of 3D models for printing and technical features of this process, reviewed and discussed a number of short video clips on the event’s theme. Also, the participants were presented the Internet sites for free download of finished 3D models.

Students also were presented a series of success stories in various areas of life based on the successful use of 3D printing.

In addition, the participants demonstrated the processes of printing various types of objects and their preparation for printing, and they also tried to create a 3D-pysanka using 3D pens.

Захід був приурочений до найдавнішого християнського свята –Великодня. На початку учасникидізналися проісторію та традиції свята.Потім за допомогоюсучасних приладів – 3D- ручок, пластику та шаблонів – робили різноманітні великодні писанки у вигляді крашанок, пасхальних кроликів, куличиків, які діти взяли з собою.

Учасники залишилися дуже задоволеними після проведеного часу у творчій лабораторії та чекають із нетерпінням нової зустрічі.

Веб-конференція «Центри «Вікно в Америку – посередники у розвитку засад медійної грамотності»

10 квітня за ініціативою Миколаївського бібліотечного ресурсного центру«Вікно в Америку» відбулася міжрегіональна веб-конференція за темою «Центри «Вікно в Америку – посередники у розвитку засад медійної грамотності». До цього заходу долучилися центри «Вікно в Америку» з Вінниці, Дніпра, Полтави та Ужгорода, представники яких поділилися своїми напрацюваннями у напрямку медіа грамотності.

Зі сторони Миколаївської ОУНБ учасниками заходу були завідуючі відділами та головні спеціалісти бібліотеки.

Координатор Миколаївського центру «Вікно в Америку» Лариса Сидоренко розповіла про попередні результати реалізації проекту «Медіаграмотна громада: місія здійсненна», що був підтриманий IREX, про особливості реалізації локального проекту бібліотеки «Людина медіаграмотна» та участь у відзначенні Всесвітнього тижня медійно-інформаційної грамотності у жовтні 2018 р.

Координатор центру з Вінниці Катерина Скомаровська поділилася результатами реалізації проекту «Молоді й медіаграмотні», основними цілями якого було навчити молодих людей фільтрувати інформацію, використовувати джерела інформації, розвивати критичне мислення, самореалізацію. Колега з Ужгорода Любов Толстова розповіла про проект «Local voices. Global changes», метою якого був розвиток медіа грамотності та навичок критичного мислення серед етнічних угорців через набір тренінгів для бібліотекарів регіону. Обидва ці проекти також були підтримані IREX.

Світлана Усенко (Дніпро) та Олена Туркіна (Полтава) розповіли про досвід їхніх центрів у напрямку популяризації медіаграмотності та про проект «Window on the Go».

Ми впевнені, що такий міжрегіональний захід був дуже корисним для учасників, і дана ініціатива матиме продовження.

Web conference Window on America Centers- Intermediaries in the Development of the Basics of Media Literacy

On April 10, an interregional web conference on "Window on America Centers - Intermediaries in the Development of Media Literacy" was held at the initiative of the Mykolaiv Window on America Center. Larysa Sydorenko, a coordinator of the Mykolaiv WOA told about the results of the project "Media literate community: mission is feasible " supported by IREX, on the peculiarities of the implementation of the local project "Media Human Media Library" and participation in the celebration of the World Media Week's media literacy in October 2018 .

The coordinator of the Vinnytsia WOA Kateryna Skomarovska shared the results of the project "Youth and Media Literate", the main goals of which were to train young people to filter information, use information sources and develop critical thinking, self-realization. A colleague from WOA Uzhgorod, Lyubov Tolstova, talked about the project "Local voices. Global changes”, aimed at developing media literacy, critical thinking skills among ethnic Hungarians through a set of trainings for librarians in the region, both of which were supported by IREX.

Svetlana Usenko (Dnipro) and Olena Turkina (Poltava) told about the experience of their WOA Centers in promoting media literacy and about the project "Window on the Go".

We are sure that such an interregional event was very useful for the participants and this initiative will be continued.

Реалізація проекту «Медіаграмотна громада: місія здійсненна!» підходить до свого завершення

Реалізація проекту «Медіаграмотна громада: місія здійсненна!» підходить до свого завершення, і 4 квітня координатором бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» Л. Сидоренко та завідуючою відділом обслуговування О. Фікс на базі Миколаївської обласної універсальної наукової бібліотеки було проведено п`ятий заключний методичний тренінг для бібліотечних фахівців центральних районних бібліотек, районних бібліотек для дітей, сільських бібліотек ЦБС та бібліотек об’єднаних територіальних громад Березанського, Вітовського, Миколаївського, Новоодеського та Очаківського районів Миколаївської області.

Під час тренінгу учасники проаналізували своє медіаполе, обговорили, як можна розвинути навички медіаграмотності та критичного мислення, зосередилися на європейських критеріях підготовки інформаційних матеріалів. Крім того, вони дізналися, що таке «джинса» та маніпуляція, які їхні види існують, як відрізнити фейкові новини від справжніх тощо.

Бібліотекарям були презентовані інформаційні продукти: інтерактивний підручник для підлітків «МедіаДрайвер» (громадської організації «Детектор медіа»), гра «Медіаграмотна місія» (IREX, Академії української преси та StopFake), збірник вправ з медіаграмотності «Медіанавігатор» (Академії української преси, громадської організації «Детектор медіа»).

Партнером у проведенні даних тренінгів виступила організація «StopFake.org», що за підтримки наших партнерів з «Dexis Consulting Group» бореться з пропагандою та дезінформацією у світі, реалізовує в Україні проект про просвітницькі можливості у справі боротьби з неправдивою інформацією. Учасники отримали рекламну продукцію, що була підготовлена та видана у рамках гранту «Медіаграмотна громада: місія здійсненна!»

Учасники тренінгу отримали домашнє завдання – провести заняття з медіаграмотності для представників своїх громад. Сподіваємося, що реалізація даного проекту у межах Миколаївської області сприятиме збільшенню кількості людей, які володіють навичками медіаграмотності, і у результаті – якісно зміниться підхід представників громади до сприйняття та оцінки інформації.

Результати реалізації проекту будуть презентовані найближчим часом та презентовані на засіданні Ради директорів ЦБС Миколаївської області.

«Media-literate community: mission is feasible»

Realization of the project "Media-literate community: mission is feasible!" is approaching to its completion and April 4 as part of its implementation by the coordinator of the Library Resource Center "Window on America" L. Fiks on the base of the Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library, conducted the fifth methodological training for library specialists of the central district libraries, district libraries for children, rural libraries of the Central Library and public libraries of the United Territorial Communities of Berezanka , Vitovka region, Mykolaiv, Nova Odessa and Ochakiv of Mykolaiv oblast.

During the training, the participants analyzed their media fields, discussed how to develop media literacy and critical thinking skills, and focused on European criteria for the preparation of informational materials. In addition, they learned what is «dzhynsa» and the manipulation and what their kinds are, how to distinguish fake news from real ones, and so on.

Information products were presented to librarians and educators: an interactive tutorial for teenagers «MediaDriver» (public organization «Detector Media»), the game «Media Literacy Mission» (IREX, Academy of Ukrainian Press and StopFake), Media Literacy exercise book «Media navigator» (Academy of Ukrainian Press, public organization «Detector Media»).

The partner in the training was the "StopFake.org" organization, which, with the support of our partners from Dexis Consulting Group, is struggling with propaganda and misinformation in the world, implements a project in Ukraine on educational opportunities in the fight against false information. StopFake provided the participants with training thematic posters, key chains and suitcases, stickers to be used by participants to promote media literacy and critical thinking development. In addition, the participants received an advertising promise, which was prepared and issued within the framework of the grant "Media-literate community: mission is feasible!"

Librarians have received homework - to hold media literacy classes for their community members, and teachers - for children, adolescents and their parents.

We hope that the implementation of this project will help increase the number of people with media literacy skills and, as a result, will change the approach of community representatives to perceiving and evaluating the information they receive from different sources.

The results of the project implementation will be realized in the near future and presented at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Central Library of the Mykolaiv region.

Відбулося третє засідання учасниць Women’s Career Club

31 березня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося третє засідання учасниць Women’s Career Club, що його модерувала психолог Надія Касьянова. На цей раз дівчата обговорювали звичку №2 «Готуйтеся» з книги Ранії Андерсон «Мене не спинити».

Зокрема, вони обговорили формулу «можливість+підготовка=успіх», поняття «упевненість», бар`єри на шляху до упевненостіта мотивацію. Також учасниці приділили увагу такій рисі характеру, як сміливість, обговорили види страхів, і чому для досягнення успіху важлива підтримка оточення.

Окрему увагу учасниці приділили професійності та діям, що можуть поліпшити компетенцію. Тож хочеться побажати всім учасницям віри у себе, у свої плани.

Women's Career Club

Реалізація проекту «Медіаграмотна громада: місія здійсненна!» продовжується, і 28 березня координатором бібліотечного ресурсного центру "Вікно в Америку" Л. Сидоренко та завідуючою відділом обслуговування О. Фікс Миколаївської обласної універсальної наукової бібліотеки на базі Пермовомайської центральної міської бібліотеки було проведено четвертий методичний тренінг для бібліотечних фахівців центральних районних бібліотек, районних бібліотек для дітей, сільських бібліотек ЦБС та бібліотек об'єднаних територіальних громад Первомайська, Южноукраїнська, Арбузинського, Врадіївського, Кривоозерського та Первомайського районів.

Після цього відбувся другий тренінг «Медіаграмотність: розібратися не можна повірити» для викладачів коледжів та вчителів загальноосвітніх шкіл м. Первомайська. Дані категорії учасників були обрані невипадково, оскільки бібліотечні фахівці та освітяни виступають посередниками у наданні та розповсюдженні інформації та знань серед своїх громад, у тому числі з медійної грамотності.

Під час тренінгів учасники проаналізували своє медіаполе, обговорили, як можна розвинути навички медіаграмотності та критичного мислення, зосередилися на європейських критеріях підготовки інформаційних матеріалів. Тренінг «Як використовувати інтерактивну групову роботу для учнів усіх рівнів»

20 березня Миколаївську обласну універсальну наукову бібліотеку та бібліотечний ресурсний центр «Вікно в Америку» відвідали співробітники Американського дому у м. Київ Дар’я Баталова та викладач англійської мови Марі Снайдер (США).

Гості ознайомилися з роботою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» (зокрема друкованими та електронними ресурсами), творчої лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab», співпрацею з навчальними закладами, громадськими організаціями та волонтерами, проектом «Медіаграмотна громада: місія здійсненна!» тощо.

Після цього Марі Снайдер провела тренінг «Як використовувати інтерактивну групову роботу для учнів усіх рівнів», в якому взяли участь викладачі та студенти кафедри теорії і практики перекладу з англійської мови Інституту філології Чорноморського національного університету імені Петра Могили, факультету іноземної філології Миколаївського національного університету ім. В. О. Сухомлинського, вчителі англійської мови загальноосвітніх шкіл м. Миколаєва. Під час тренінгу Марі ознайомила присутніх з інтерактивною методикою викладання англійської мови для студентів. Вона наголосила на тому, що модель викладання англійської мови складається із трьох основних компонентів: мотивації, активного навчання та залучення студентів до процесу вивчення мови. Учасники заходу взяли участь в інтерактивних вправах «Яка з цих професій найгірша?», «Який з цих шкільних предметів є найціннішим?», «Опиши предмет, інтерпретуй, відобрази», попрацювали у групах та обговорили процес кооперативного управління класами: кольорову систему моніторингу, відомі вислови про освіту. Наприкінці Марі представила вільний ресурс для вчителів англійської мови American English.

Training «How to use interactive group work for all levels»

March 20, Mykolaiv Regional Universal Library and Library Resource Center «Window on America» were visited by the staff of the America House Kyiv Daria Batalova and the English teacher Marie Snider (USA).

The guests got acquainted with the work of the Library Resource Center «Window on America», in particular, the print and electronic resources, the creative Mykolaiv FabLab, cooperation with educational institutions, public organizations and volunteers, the project «Media literate community: mission is feasible», etc.

After that, Marie Snider (USA) held a training «How to use interactive group work for all levels», which was attended by teachers and students of the Theory and Practice of Translation Department from English of the Philology Institute of the Petro Mohyla Black Sea National University, Faculty of Foreign Philology of the V.O. Sukhomlynsky Mykolaiv National University, teacher of English language secondary schools in the Mykolaiv city.

During the training, Marie introduced presenters to the interactive English teaching methodology for students. She emphasized that the English language teaching model consists of three main components: motivation, active learning and students’ engagement. Participants took part in interactive exercises «Which of these jobs is the worst?», «Which of these school subjects is the most valuable?», «Describe, interpret, reflect», work in groups and discussed the process of cooperative classroom management: color-coded monitor system, famous quotes about education. At the end of the training, Marie presented free resource «American English» for English teachers.

The participants of the training have acquired new knowledge and skills in teaching English for students and pupils.

Зустріч з волонтером Корпусу Миру в Україні

14 березня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася зустріч з волонтером Корпусу Миру в Україні Джоном Шмелігом.

Під час зустрічі Джон розповів про проект, який він реалізує в Україні,поділився досвідом співпраці та допомоги ветеранам АТО Миколаєва та Миколаївської області.

Зокрема, він розповів, що є членом ГО «Асоціація учасників та інвалідів АТО», що надає психологічну допомогу, юридичні консультації, співпрацює з органами влади, сприяє їхньому працевлаштуванню та створенню власного бізнесу, допомагає дітям АТО. Також Джон навів ряд конкретних прикладів роботи з ветеранами.

Учасники зустрічі, а ними були відвідувачі центру, студенти, активні громадяни, мали змогу задати Джону питання та отримати відповіді на них.

Meeting with the Peace Corps volunteer in Ukraine

On March 14, a meeting with the Peace Corps in Ukraine Volunteer John Sсhmelig was held at the Library Resource Center.

During the meeting, John told about the project that he is implementing in Ukraine, shared his experience of cooperation and assistance to veterans of the ATO (Anti-terrorist operation) of Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv region.

In particular, he said that he is a member of the public organization "Association of Participants and Disabled ATO", which provides psychological assistance, legal advice, cooperates with the authorities, promotes their employment and the creation of their own business, and helps children ATO. John also gave a number of concrete examples of working with veterans.

«3D-подарунок для мами»

3 березня за ініціативою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» у рамках дитячої студії «Магія 3D», що діє при творчій лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab», відбувся майстер-клас для дітей з користування 3D- ручками за темою «3D-подарунок для мами».

Захід був присвячений Міжнародному дню жінок, і діти за допомогоюсучасних приладів – 3D-ручок, пластику та шаблонів робили подарунки для мам та бабусь до 8 Березня. Створених власними руками метеликів, різноманітних квітів, героїв мультфільмів діти взяли з собою.

Маленькі учасники залишилися дуже задоволеними, а ми сподіваємося, що власно зроблений ними незвичний подарунок справить на прекрасну половину людства незабутнє враження.

«3D Gift for Mom»

March 3, a master class for children using 3D handles on the topic «3D Gift for mom» was held at the initiative of the Library Resource Center «Window on America» in the framework of the children's studio «Magic 3D», which operates in the creative laboratory «Mykolaiv FabLab».

The event was dedicated to the International Women's Day (March 8), and the children made gifts for mothers and grandmothers by the use of modern instruments - 3D pens, plastic and templates. The children took with them their handmade things: butterflies, various flowers, heroes of cartoons.

Презентація «Освіта в США: можливості для українських школярів та студентів»

3 березня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» обласної універсальної наукової бібліотеки відбулася презентація «Освіта в США: можливості для українських школярів та студентів».

Учень Миколаївського муніципального колегіуму, випускник програми для майбутніх лідерів FLEX Дмитро Бурденко поділився особистим досвідом пошуку і процедури подачі документів до американських вузів на здобуття ступеня бакалавра та розкрив секрети пошуку платформ для отримання фінансової допомоги.

Також учасники дізналися про можливості здобуття ступенів магістра й доктора наук та отримали відповіді на питання, що їх цікавили.

Presentation «Education in the United States: Opportunities for Ukrainian Schoolchildren and Students»

On March 3, the Mykolaiv Window on America of the Regional Universal Scientific Library hosted the presentation «Education in the United States: Opportunities for Ukrainian Schoolchildren and Students».

A student of the Mykolaiv Municipal College, a graduate of the program for future FLEX leaders, Dmytro Burdenko shared his personal search experience and the procedures for filing documents for American universities to obtain a bachelor's degree and revealed the secrets of platform search for financial assistance.

Participants also learned about the possibilities of obtaining the degrees of a master's degree and a doctor of sciences and received answers to the questions that they were interested in.

Перегляд класичного фільму «Пікнік біля Навислої скелі»

14 лютого у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» за сприяння кінокомпанії «Артхаус Трафік» та Посольства Австралії в Україні відбувся перегляд класичного фільму «Пікнік біля Навислої скелі», знятого режисером Пітером Віром у 1975 р. за мотивами однойменного роману Джоан Ліндсі. Прем’єра фільму відбулася в Аделаїді 8 серпня 1975 р. Це перший австралійський фільм, що мав гучний успіх за кордоном. Після його виходу фахівці заговорили про виникнення «австралійської нової хвилі».

Глядачі побачили історію про таємниче зникнення на Навислій скелі у штаті Вікторія трьох дівчат і їхньої вчительки математики. Загадкові події, що нібито відбулися в останній Валентинів день XIX століття, залишені у фільмі без пояснення та породили безліч припущень та інтерпретацій.

Учасники заходу відзначили, що режисеру вдалося створити особливу психологічну атмосферу у фільмі завдяки експериментам зі звуками і ракурсами, і це тримає у напруженні під час усього фільму. Також вони жваво обговорили знамениті рядки Едгара По «…що ми бачимо і що бачать в нас – є тільки сон, і сон всередині іншого сну», що передують у фільмі.

Watching the classic movie «Picnic at Hanging Rock»

On February 14th, in the library resource center «Window on America» with the assistance of the film company «Arthouse Traffic» and the Australian Embassy in Ukraine, a classic film «Picnic at Hanging Rock» was filmed, directed by Peter Weir in 1975, based on the same novel by Joan Lindsay. The premiere of the film took place in Adelaide on August 8, 1975. This is the first Australian film that has had great success abroad. After it release, the experts began talking about the emergence of the «Australian New Wave».

The audience saw a story about the mysterious disappearance of the three girls and their math teacher on the Hanging Rock in Victoria State. The mysterious events that allegedly occurred in the last Valentine’s Day of the XIX century, left in the film without explanation and gave rise to many assumptions and interpretations.

Event participants noted that the director managed to create a special psychological atmosphere in the film thanks to experiments with sounds and perspectives and it holds tense throughout the film. Also, the participants discussed the famous lines by Edgar Po – «What we see and what we see in us is just a dream and sleep inside another dream», which precedes the film.

Друге засідання Жіночого кар’єрного клубу

17 лютого у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» знову зібралися учасниці Жіночого кар’єрного клубу, що діє на базі центру. Цього разу учасниці за допомогою фасилітаторки Надії Касьянової обговорювали звичку «бути нестримною» закнигою Ранії Андерсон «Мене не спинити».

Учасниці згадували гендерні упередження та стереотипи, направлені проти жінок, а також висловилися, як позбутися перешкод на шляху досягнення цілей тощо.

Окрім того, присутні поділилися своїм життєвим, професійним досвідом у тому, що їм допомагає чи заважає бути нестримними та спробували розібрати ці приклади під керівництвом фасилітатора.

Second Women's Career Club meeting

Тренінг «Основи 3D-сканування»

13 лютого бібліотечним ресурсним центром «Вікно в Америку» у рамках творчої лабораторії «Mykolaiv FabLab» для студентів Миколаївського коледжу культури і мистецтв було проведено тренінг «Основи 3D-сканування».

Під час заходу учасники дізналися про історію та сучасне використання 3D-сканування у медицині, будівництві, інженерії, розглянули різновиди3D-сканерів, їхнє програмне забезпечення, ознайомилися з особливостями контактного та безконтактного сканування.

Також учасникам було продемонстровано процеси сканування різних видів об’єктів та їхньої підготовки до друку.

Training «Fundamentals of 3D-scanning»

On February 13, «Fundamentals of 3D-scanning» were conducted for the students of the Mykolaiv College of Culture and Arts within the framework of the Creative Laboratory's functioning of the Mykolaiv library resource center «Window on America».

During the event, participants learned about the history and current use of 3D scans in medicine, construction, engineering, reviewed varieties of scanners, software, and contact and non-contact scan features. In addition, the processes of scanning various types of objects and preparing them for printing were demonstrated to the participants.

Екскурсія«Від події до новини»

13 лютого у рамках реалізації проекту «Людина медіаграмотна» за ініціативою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» відбулася екскурсія «Від події до новини» до філії публічного акціонерного товариства «Національної суспільної телерадіокомпаїі України» Миколаївської регіональної дирекції.

Учасники – студенти ВП «МФ КНУКіМ» спеціальності «Інформаційна, бібліотечна та архівна справа» – дізналися про історію та особливості діяльності радіостудії, студії новин та ранкової студії «Новий день». Також гості відвідали апаратну й дізналися про процес показу та монтажу телепередач. Учасники отримали відповіді на запитання від професійних журналістів, операторів, техніків.

The participants, students of the Mykolaiv branch ofKyiv National University of Culture and Arts of specialty «Information, Library and Archival Affairs», learned about the history and features of the work of the radio studio, the work of the news studio, the selection and creation of news, the morning studio «New Day». Also, the students visited the hardware and learned about the process of displaying and installing telecasts. In addition, all participants get answers to questions from professional journalists, operators, and technicians.

Веб-конференція Миколаївського та Житомирського центрів «Вікно в Америку»

5 лютого за ініціативою Миколаївського та Житомирського центрів «Вікно в Америку» відбулася веб-конференція. Учасниками заходу були завідуючі відділами Миколаївської ОУНБ та координатор Житомирського центру «Вікно в Америку» Оксана Горпинич, яка розповіла про свою участь у програмі «International Visitor Leadership Program» (США) у листопаді-грудні 2018 р.

Учасники з Миколаєва дізналися про мету, учасників даної програми, сучасні бібліотечні послуги для відвідувачів бібліотек США та секрет популярності американських бібліотек серед громади. Окремо було презентовано діяльність бібліотеки Конгресу СШАяк однієї з найбільших та найсучасніших бібліотек світу. Також Оксана Горпинич поділилася своїми планами щодо запровадження отриманого досвіду у розвиток бібліотеки та Центру. Окрім того, колеги з Миколаєва дізналися про те, як учасники програми працювали та відпочивали.

Сподіваємося, що такі заходи будуть регулярними та сприятимуть запровадженню нових послуг в обласних універсальних наукових бібліотеках Миколаєва та Житомира.

Web conference of the Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr centers «Window on America»

On February 5, a web conference was held at the initiative of Mykolaivand Zhytomyr centers "Window on America". The participants of the event on the one hand were the heads of the Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library, on the other - the coordinator of the Zhytomyr Center «Window to America» Oksana Horpynych, who told about her participation in the program «International Visitor Leadership Program» (USA) in November-December 2018.

In particular, the participants from Mykolaiv learned about the purpose of the program, the modern library services for visitors to the US libraries and the secret of the popularity of American libraries among the community. The activity of the Library of the United States Congress was presented as one of the largest and most modern libraries in the world. Also, the coordinator of Zhytomyr «Window on America» shared some of her plans for introducing the experience gained in the activities of the library and the Center. In addition, colleagues from Mykolaiv learned how the participants of the program can not only work hard but also to have rest.

We hope that such measures will be regular and facilitate the introduction of new services in the regional universal scientific libraries of Mykolaiv and Zhytomyr.

Жіночий кар’єрний клуб

20 січня 2019 р. стало важливою датою у житті кожного члена Жіночого кар’єрного клубу, що був запропонований Американським домом Києва і підтриманий Миколаївським центром «Вікно в Америку».

Сьогодні відбулося перше засідання, і можна вважати це днем, коли кожна з учасниць зробила перший крок на зустріч змінам у своєму житті.

Під час заходу відбулося знайомство фасилітаторки Надії Касьянової з учасницями, які розповіли, де вони працюють, яких кар’єрних цілей хочуть досягти й з якими труднощами та страхами вони стикаються.

Усього за період реалізації проекту відбудеться 7 зустрічей.

Women's Career Club

20th of January 2019 became a significant date in life of each member of the Women's Career Club, which was proposed by America House Kyiv and supported by Mykolaiv Window on America Center.

Today we`ve had the first meeting, which can be considered as a day when each of the participants made the first step to meeting the changes in their lives.

During this meeting, a facilitator Nadezhda Kasyanova met with the participants who shared about their jobs, career goals they want to achieve and difficulties and fears they face.

We`ll have 7 meetings during the project's implementation.

Медіаграмотність та критичне мислення

20 січня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог», що його провів випускник програми для майбутніх лідерів FLEX 2017-2018 та волонтер Центру Дмитро Бурденко.

Разом з лідером гості обговорили тему «Медіаграмотність та критичне мислення», метою якого було поліпшення громадянської медіаграмотності та сприяння покращенню якості сприйняття інформації людьми. Присутні розглянули чотири важливі навички, що є ключовими для розуміння та аналізу засобів масової інформації, обговорили, які з них вже використовуються учасниками аудиторії та які потрібно удосконалити. Також учасники засідання оцінили переваги та недоліки традиційних та сучасних ЗМІ, як вони доповнюють один одного, і, нарешті, обговорили філософську проблему цензури та контролю медіа, що викликало тривалу дискусію серед учасників.

Крім того, учасники розглянули, що таке маніпуляції на телебаченні, у журналах, газетах та соціальних мережах, а також,що таке фейкові новини і як їх розрізняти.

Media literacy and critical thinking

Mykolaiv Window on America Center held a regular English Speaking Club on the 20th of January.

Dmytro Burdenko (FLEX alumnus 2017-2018) was our leader.

Our visitors discussed the topic "Media literacy and critical thinking” with our speaker. The goal of this Speaking club was to improve civil media literacy and therefore improve the quality of life for individuals and the democratic process itself. We discussed the concept of media literacy as a whole, what it comprises and how we can improve our media literacy and critical thinking. He described the four important skills that are key to comprehending and analyzing the media and discussed which ones are already in use by the audience members and which ones needed improvement. We also evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and modern media and how they complement one another. Finally, we discussed the philosophical problem of censorship and control of media, which sparked a long discussion among the participants.

Also the participants discussed what such manipulations on TV, magazines and newspapers, social networks, what are fakes and how to distinguish them.

Тренінг «Реклама як інструмент маніпулювання свідомістю»

У сучасному світі реклама безсумнівно виступає одним з основних рушіїв торгівлі, допомагає дізнатися про нові товари і послуги, зорієнтуватися у широкому колі виробництва і споживання. Проте вищезазначене поняття вже давно перестало бути просто джерелом інформації про товари і послуги. Сучасні науковці розглядають рекламу як визначену психологічну технологію, орієнтовану на маніпулювання мотиваційно-потребовою і свідомою сферами особистості для досягнення соціально-політичних, економічних і інших переваг, та стверджують, що реклама – могутній засіб впливу і маніпуляції людиною.

Тому 20 грудня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» у рамках реалізації проекту «Людина медіаграмотна» відбувся тренінг «Реклама як інструмент маніпулювання свідомістю», під час якого учасники намагалися проаналізувати поняття «реклама» та «маніпулювання свідомістю», ознаки маніпуляційкомерційної, політичної реклами, вплив реклами на поведінку та дії людей. Окрім того, відповіли на запитання анкети «Чи схильні Ви піддаватися чужій думці?». Також присутні переглянули та обговорили ряд рекламних роликів різної спрямованості.

Учасники дійшли думки, що будь-яка реклама нав’язує готові моделі й стандарти життя, призводить до певного викривлення соціальної поведінки.

Training «Advertising as a tool for manipulating consciousness»

In the modern world, advertising undoubtedly serves as one of the main drivers of trade, helps to find out about new products and services, to orientate in a wide range of production and consumption. However, the aforementioned concept has long ceased to be simply a source of information about goods and services. Modern scholars view advertising as a definite psychological technology, focused on manipulating the motivational-need and conscious spheres of the individual to achieve socio-political, economic and other preferences, and argue that advertising is a powerful means of influencing and manipulating a person and as a phenomenon capable of shaping and changing the worldview and behavior of people.

Therefore, on December 20, the training «Advertising as a tool for the manipulation of consciousness» took place at the Window on America library resource center within the framework of the Human Media Literacy project during which the participants tried to analyze the concept of «advertising» and «manipulation of consciousness», signs of manipulation of commercial, political advertising, the impact of advertising on the behavior and actions of people. In addition, they answered questions of the questionnaire «Are you inclined to submit to someone else's opinion?». Also participants reviewed and discussed a number of commercials of different orientations.

Participants came to the conclusion that any advertising imposes ready models and standards of life, leads to a certain distortion of social behavior. Advertising inspires a person to think that if she or he buys this or that thing, she will become happier, more attractive, and more successful, that this will increase her (his) status. Therefore, the review and content of any advertisement should be approached very responsibly.

«Волонтери мають талант»

9 грудня у бібліотечному ресурсному центр «Вікно в Америку» відбулося талант-шоу «Волонтери мають талант», приурочене до Міжнародного дня волонтера. На свято завітали волонтери Центру, серед яких – випускники програм для майбутніх лідерів FLEX, студенти миколаївських вищих навчальних закладів. За плідну працю та активну підтримку діяльності Центру три нових волонтери отримали Сертифікати Подяки від Посольства США в Україні. Інші учасники отримали невеличкі подарунки на пам’ять.

Під час заходу учасники обговорили короткі відеоролики англійською мовою «Переваги волонтерства» та «Чому волонтерство є важливим?», переглянули відеопривітання від волонтерів Яни Алімової та Олега Попова, які зараз перебувають за волонтерськими програмами у Литві та Польщі.

Присутні почули від волонтерів власні вірші та вірші різних поетів про волонтерство, кохання, життя російською, англійською та таджицькою мовами, пісні англійською та іспанською мовами.

Наприкінці заходу учасники обговорили результати волонтерської діяльності та плани на майбутнє. Сподіваємося, що плідна співпраця Центру і волонтерів буде тривати і надалі, а коло волонтерів розширюватиметься.

«Volunteers have talent»

On December 9, the talent show «Volunteers have talent» took place in the library resource center «Window on America», which was timed to the International Volunteer Day. The volunteers of the Center visited the festival, among them graduates of FLEX programs for future leaders, students of Mykolaiv higher educational establishments. For the fruitful work and active support of the Center's activities, three new volunteers received Certificates of Acknowledgments from the US Embassy in Ukraine. Other participants received small souvenirs.

During the event, the participants reviewed and discussed short video clips in English «Advantages of Volunteering» and «Why is volunteering important?», reviewed the video greetings from volunteers Jana Alimova and Oleg Popov, who are currently volunteering programs in Lithuania and Poland.

Our volunteers are very creative people. They are representatives of Ukraine, the USA, Mexico, and Tajikistan. We heard from them the actual poems and poems of different poets about volunteering, love, life in Russian, English and Tajik languages, English and Spanish songs.

In the end, the participants discussed the results of volunteering and plan for the future. We hope that the fruitful cooperation of the Center and the volunteers will continue, and the volunteer circle will be expanded.

Презентація Фонду сприяння демократії Посольства США

5 грудня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася презентація Фонду сприяння демократії Посольства США в Україні, що її провів експерт Фонду Сергій Решетов.

У заході взяли участь громадські діячі, активісти, керівники громадських організацій і благодійних фондів та інші зацікавлені особи, які працюють у напрямках розвитку громадянського суспільства, прозорості органів влади, громадської підтримки освітніх ініціатив, протидії торгівлі людьми, розвитку виборчої системи тощо.

Під час заходу учасники дізналися про роботу Фонду сприяння демократії, головні вимоги до проектів, правила та терміни подачі і розгляду заявок тощо.

Усі присутні мали змогу поставити запитання та отримати детальну відповідь на них.

Presentation of the Foundation for the Promotion of Democracy US Embassy

On December 5, the expert of the Foundation Sergey Reshetov held a presentation of the Foundation for the Promotion of Democracy US Embassy in Ukraine in the library resource center «Window on America».

The event was attended by public figures, activists, heads of public organizations and charitable foundations and other interested persons working in the areas of civil society development, transparency of government bodies, public support of educational initiatives, counteraction to trafficking in human beings, and the development of the electoral system etc.

During the event participants learned about the work of the Democracy Facility, the main requirements for projects, the rules and deadlines for filing and reviewing applications, etc.

All participants had the opportunity to ask questions and get a detailed answer to them.

«Достовірністьі точність інформації медіа: кому, чому і коли варто вірити»

29 листопада у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» у рамках реалізації проекту «Людина Медіаграмотна» відбулася дискусія «Достовірність і точність інформації медіа: кому, чому і коли варто вірити».

Під час заходу учасники зауважили, чи варто довіряти всій тій інформації, що зустрічається щодня у мережі Інтернет та транслюється по телебаченню. Були обговорені і правила перевірки джерел та авторів інформації, наслідки для суспільства та окремих людей, що можуть нести за собою перекручування, виривання фраз із контексту, додавання до прямої мови слів, що не відповідають переконанням респондентів тощо.

Окрім того, присутні ознайомилися з можливостями сайту «stopfake» та правилами перевірки фото йвідеоконтентів на достовірність.

Наприкінці заходу учасники дійшли висновку, що в умовах сьогодення важливо володіти навичками перевірки інформації на достовірність і точність та не бути об’єктами маніпуляції.

«The credibility and accuracy of media information: to whom, why and when it is necessary to believe»

On November 29, in the framework of the Human Media Literacy project, the discussion on «Reliability and accuracy of media information: to whom, why and when it is necessary to believe» was held in the library resource center "Window on America".

During the event, the participants discussed whether to trust all the information that we meet every day on the Internet, we hear on television. Participants also discussed the rules for verifying sources and authors of information, which consequences for society and individuals may entail distortion, the removal of phrases from the context, the addition of words in the direct language that do not correspond to the convictions of respondents, etc.

In addition, the participants were introduced to the features of the site stopfake and the rules for verifying photo and video content for authenticity.

At the end of the event, the participants came to the conclusion that in today's conditions it is imperative to have the skills of checking information for accuracy and not be objects of manipulation.

Майстер-клас «Створення персонажу»

В обласній бібліотеці у рамках локального проекту «Будь на хвилі – читай, думай, дискутуй!» проводяться заходи «Відкритий мікрофон», завдяки яким талановиті люди Миколаївщини презентують власну творчість.

11 листопадау бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася творча зустріч з талановитим художником-ілюстратором Алісою Грабко, яка викладає образотворче мистецтво у Дитячій школі мистецтв № 1.

Під часзаходудіти поспілкувалися з художницею, познайомилися з її творчістю і взяли участь у майстер-класі «Створення персонажу». В ігровій формі учасники дізналися про основи композиції, розглянули правила створення ілюстрацій, отримали професійні поради і намалювали улюблених тварин.

Зустріч з Алісою Грабко пройшла у теплій і доброзичливій атмосфері.

Master Class «Creating a Character»

On November 11, a talent artist-illustrator Alice Grabko met at the Library Resource Center «Window on America». She teaches art at the Children's Art School No. 1.

During the creative meeting, the children talked to the artist, got acquainted with her creativity and took part in the master class «Creation of the character». In the game form, the participants learned about the basics of the composition, reviewed the rules for creating illustrations, received professional advice and drew their favorite animals. Meeting with Alice Grabko was in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

«Що відбувається з нами, коли ми читаємо роман?»

6 листопада у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася презентація«Що відбувається з нами, коли ми читаємо роман?» за участюучасниці програми академічних обмінів імені Фулбрайта ГізерФілдінг, яка протягом 2018-2019 рр. працюватиме на базі Полтавського національного педагогічного університету імені В. Г. Короленка. Гізер Філдінг викладає теорію літератури в одному з університетів США та є автором роботи «Novel Theory and Technology in Modernist Britain». Захід був організований за підтримки доцента кафедри англійської філології Чорноморського національного університету ім. Петра Могили, учасниці програми академічних обмінів імені Фулбрайта 2007-2008 рр. Тетяни Остапчук.

Під час зустрічі гостя представила історичні та теоретичні передумови літературного процесу в США.Разом з лідером відвідувачі обговорили, як читання книги відрізняється від перегляду фільму, слухання музики, та думки вчених стосовно цього питання.

«What happens to us when we read a novel?»

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had apresentation «What happens to us when we read a novel?»by Heather V. Fielding, а Fulbright Scholar based at Poltava V.G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University (2018-2019) on the 6th of November.

Heather V. Fielding is an associate professor of English at Purdue University Northwest in Indiana and is an author of «Novel Theory and Technology in Modernist Britain».

This event was organised with a support of Tetyana Ostapchuk, an Associate Professor of English Philology of Petro Mohyla Black See National University, a Fulbright Scholar 2007-2008.

During the meeting Нeather V. Fielding introduced a historical and theoretical background literary process in the United States.

Together with a leader our visitors had a discussion prompts about things like «how is reading a book different than watching a movie, listening to music». Also our guest gave a quick view of how literary scholars think about these kinds of questions.

«Святкуємо Хелловін»

1 листопада у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася костюмована вечірка «Святкуємо Хелловін». Учасники заходу дізналися про історію свята, переглянули та обговорили ряд коротких відео, взяли участь у цікавій вікторині, інтерактивних іграх «Склади вірш», «Вгадай пісню», «Асоціації» та ін.

Кожен бажаючий презентував свій костюм англійською мовою, а переможець отримав заохочувальний приз від Центру.

«Celebrate Halloween»

On November, 1, a costume party «Celebrate the Halloween» took place at the Library Resource Center «Window on America».

Participants of the event learned about the history of the holiday, reviewed and discussed a series of short videos about Halloween.

In addition, participants took part in an interesting quiz about the holiday, interactive games «Compose poem», «Guess the song», «Associations», etc.

Тренінг «Вступ до медіаграмотності»

25 жовтня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» було проведено тренінг «Вступ до медіаграмотності», присвячений відзначенню Всесвітнього тижня медійно-інформаційної грамотності, щощорічно відзначається за ініціативою ЮНЕСКО.

Під час зустрічі учасники дізналися про історію розвитку та суспільне значення медіаосвіти, види медіаграмотності та спробували проаналізувати визначення й сутність понять «медіаграмотність» та «критичне мислення». Також присутні подискутували над питанням «Чому сьогодні дуже важливо бути медіаграмотним?».

Учасникам заходу були представлені он-лайн курси «Новинна грамотність» («Детектор медіа»), «Медіадрайвер», «Медіаграмотність для громадян» (IREX).

Відвідувачі дійшли висновку, що у сучасному інформаційному світі дуже важливо бути медіаграмотним та критично осмислювати подану інформацію.

Training «Introduction to the media literacy»

Mykolaiv Window on America Center joined the Global Media and Information Literacy Week, which is celebrated annually by UNESCO's initiatives on 25th of October.

Our participants took part in training «Introduction to the media literacy».

The participants learned about the history of development and the social significance of media education, types of medi aliteracyand tried to analyze the definition and essence of the concept of «media literacy», «critical thinking» in groups. Also, they had a discussion on the question «Why is it very important to be media literate today?».

The online courses «Literacy», «Media Driver», «Media Literacy for Citizens» (IREX) were presented for participants of the event.

Visitors decided that in the modern information world is very important to be media literate and critically comprehend all the information.

23 жовтня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася презентація «Можливості отримання освіти в США», що її провела Представник Консультативного центру мережі EducationUSA у Києві Тетяна Котко. Учасники заходу дізналися про стипендіальні програми уряду США, що надаються громадянам України, конкурентне освітнє середовище у США, процес підготовки та подачі документів для вступу до американських вузів.

Також присутні подивилися та обговорили ряд відео з історіями успіху українських студентів, які навчаються у США.

21 жовтня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» вперше відбулася трансформаційна гра «Як здійснити свої мрії».

Під час гри учасники намагалися навчитися мріяти так, щоб мрії ставали реальністю, вчилисярозуміти себе,свої бажання, потреби, ефективно розпоряджатися своїм вільним часом, відкривати своє серце чудесам.Присутні визначили свою заповітну мрію тапріоритетні дії, що потрібні для досягнення цієї мрії.

У результаті гри гості побачили свої різні сторони і прояви у житті та проаналізували причини, що заважають їм досягати мрій.

Transformation Game «How to Make Your Dreams»

On October 21, the «Window on America" Library Resource Center hosted the first transformational game «How to Make Your Dreams».

During the game, the participants tried to learn to dream so that their dreams came true and became reality; understand yourself; to understand their desires, needs, and values; feel, love, open your heart to miracles; analyzed the reasons why dreams do not come true. The participants opened their resources for realizing dreams, determined their cherished dream and understood what priority actions should be taken to achieve a dream.

As a result of the game, guests saw their different sides and manifestations in their lives, analyzed the reasons that prevented them from achieving their dreams, where their time was spent, and how to learn how to effectively manage them.

30 вересня у рамках відзначення Всеукраїнського дня бібліотекбібліотечний ресурсний центр «Вікно в Америку» провів засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог» за темою «Бібліотеки та книги VS Інтернету».

Відвідувачі поділилися своїм баченням сучасної та креативної бібліотеки, її послуг, що їх вони хотіли б мати у бібліотеці, та розповіли про причини відвідування. Крім того, учасники обговорили переваги друкованих та електронних книг, вплив Інтернету на діяльність бібліотек, поділилися враженнями від відвідування закордонних книгосховищ, поговорили й про те, що дізналися і які уроки отримали, читаючи книжки.

Наприкінці зустрічі гості вирішили, що бібліотеки й книги є дуже важливими у нашому світі.

«Libraries books VS Internet»

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club оn the 30th of September.The club was dedicated to Library`s day and our topic was «Libraries books VS Internet».

Our visitors told about their vision a modern and creative library, servises that they would you like to have in library. Also everyone told about their reasons of visiting libraries. Moreover participants discussed the advantages of printed and electronic books, the influence of the Internet on the activity of libraries. Also they told about foreign libraries that they have ever visited!

Also they told about their favorite books and authors, what they learned and what lessons they have had from books.

18 вересня координатор бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» Лариса Сидоренко провела тренінг «Адвокація: час діяти» для студентів заочного відділення факультету менеджменту бізнесу, спеціальності «Інформаційна, бібліотечна та архівна справа» ВП «Миколаївська філія Київського національного університету культури і мистецтв».

Під час заходу учасники обговорили важливість та необхідність адвокації, розглянули різноманітні моделі діяльності публічної бібліотеки як центру громадської активності, взяли участь у грі «Промова у ліфті» та ознайомилися з практичним досвідом адвокаційної діяльності бібліотек Миколаївського регіону.

Також учасників було ознайомлено з діяльністю Секції з адвокації Української бібліотечної асоціації та досвідом адвокаційної діяльності бібліотек України, що представлений у групі«Школа бібліотечної адвокації» у мережі Фейсбук.

Присутні дійшли висновку, що адвокація – це постійна та кропітка праця з представлення інтересів бібліотек, що є особливо актуальною в умовах децентралізації та адміністративної реформи.

«Advocacy - time to act»

September 18 coordinator of library resource center «Window on America» Larisa Sydorenko conducted training «Advocacy - time to act» for students of the correspondence department of the Faculty of Management business, specialty Information, Library and Information Affairs of the separated subdivision Mykolaiv branch of the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts.

During the event, participants discussed the importance and necessity of advocacy activities examined various models of the public library as a center of social activity, participated in the game «in an elevator speech» and got acquainted with the experience of advocacy libraries Mykolaiv region.

The participants were also acquainted with the activities of the Advocacy Section of the Ukrainian Library Association and the advocacy experience of the libraries of Ukraine, presented in the group «School of Library Advocacy» in the Facebook network.

The participants came to the conclusion that advocacy is a constant and hard work on representing the interests of libraries, which is especially relevant in conditions of decentralization and administrative reform.

2 вересня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Далог». Разом з волонтером Олегом учасники обговорили тему «Відкритість – як життєва риса».

Присутні обговорили важливість відкритості людини до нових ідей, переваги та недоліки відкритості, упередження людей до неї. Також вони торкнулися теми уважності та самосвідомості. У презентації були використані цитати на тему відкритості різних авторів, підприємців, керівників, філософів та науковців, на які учасники подискутували.

Окрім того, гість заходу запропонував нові та цікаві ідеї щодо теми клубу та порадив всім бути життєрадісними та відкритими.

«Open-mindedness as a vital trait»

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club оn the 2nd of September.

The topic was «Open-mindedness as a vital trait» with our volunteer Oleg. Our participants talked about the importance of being open to the new ideas. Some looked at their prejudices from another perspective and changed their mind. The participants discussed about advantages and downsides of being open-minded. The topics of mindfulness and self-awareness have been touched as well. The presentation was rich in multiple quotes on the topic of open-mindedness of different authors, entrepreneurs, leaders, philosophers and academics.Our speaking club leader presented some amazing ideas and insights concerning the subject matter. Everyone enjoyed the time here. We thank every person for being with us there. And as Oleg says, «Don’t forget to be awesome».

«Час»

12 серпня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог» за темою «Час», яке провела учасниця програми для майбутніх лідерів FLEX Ольга Челенгірова.

Учасники обговорили поняття пунктуальності, різні обставини, що допомагають чи заважають бути пунктуальними. Також присутні не обійшли увагою питання планування дня для найбільшої продуктивності, як часто необхідно планувати, як керувати своїм часом. Цікавими були думки учасників клубу стосовно руху часу, подорожі часом в майбутньому, скільки їм потрібно ще додаткових годин на добу, чи хотіли б вони зупинити чи повернути час назад тощо.

Відвідувачі дійшли висновку, що час є дуже важливим у житті кожної людини і треба його якомога і з користю використовувати.

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club the оn the 12th of August. The topic was «Time» with our volunteer, a participant of FLEX program Olga Chelengirova.

Our visitors discussed the following issues:

-Do you consider yourself to be a punctual person?

- How do you deal with people who are late to meetings?

- If you are late, what message does this send to the person who is waiting for you?

- Have you ever forgotten about an appointment?

- How much time do you spend sleeping?

- Do you wish you could sleep more?

- Which time of day do you feel you are most productive?

- Do you schedule out what you have to do every day, week, etc?

- Do you think you manage your time wisely? Why? Why not?

«Емоції. Як боротися з негативними емоціями?»

10 липня в Інформаційно-ресурсному центрі міжнародного партнерства відбувся розмовний клуб на тему «Емоції. Як боротися з негативними емоціями?».

Лідером виступив волонтер центру Олег Попов. Він поділився з учасниками клубу думками різних англійських та українських авторів про страх, гнів, щастя і провину, а учасники розкрили та показали свої емоції, розповідаючи про різні життєві ситуації. Обговорення стало жвавим, коли мова зайшла про реальні негаразди та пропозиції щодо їхнього подолання. Це була корисна тема, оскільки всі люди стикаються зі своїми емоціями, особливо, коли залишаються самотніми або потрапляють у нестандартні ситуації.

Учасники зійшлися на думці, що участь у таких клубах допомагає краще зрозуміти природу емоцій та знайти вихід з різних ситуацій.

«Emotions. How to deal with negative emotions?»

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club on the 10th of June. The topic was «Emotions. How to deal with negative emotions?» with our volunteerOleg P.

He shared with public the opinions of different authors on fear, anger, happiness and guilt. Participants discussed their emotions and strange situations in their lives. The discussion got heated when it came to real-world adversities and suggestions on how to overcome them. A lot of quotes were used during the speaking club. It was a useful topic as all of us face our emotions especially when the rubber hits the road.

Participants agreed that participating in such clubs helps to better understand the nature of emotions and find a way out of different situations.

Презентація програми «Відкритий світ»

2 червня за ініціативиою Американських Рад з міжнародної освіти та обласної наукової бібліотеки відбулася презентація програми Конгресу США «Відкритий світ» за участю координатора випускників та випускниць програми в Україні Вероніки Грищенко та представниці програми, що орієнтована на молодих громадських лідерів, Дани Кавари.

Присутні дізналися, що програма спрямована на молодь, яка впливає на політичну ситуацію й суспільну думку в країні – представників різних рівнів державної влади, академічного співтовариства, некомерційних організацій й інших структур, що займаються громадськими питаннями та, незважаючи на свій відносно молодий вік, уже виявили себе як професіонали своєї справи, а також зацікавлені у побудові демократії, ринкової економіки й верховенства права.Також модератори ознайомили присутніх з особливостями та вимогами участі у програмі у 2018 р. Зокрема, цього року програма підтримує такі напрямки, як управління місцевими громадами, верховенство права, освіта, розвиток законодавства, розвиток неурядових організацій.

Presentation of Open World Program

June 2 at the initiative of the American Councils forInternational Education and Oleksiy Hmyryov Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library was held the program’spresentationof the US Congress «Open World».

The presentation was conducted by Veronika Grishchenko, coordinator of graduates of the program in Ukraine and Dana Kavara, representative of the program for young social leaders.

The attendees learned that the program is aimed to young leaders who influence the political situation and public opinion in the country - representatives of different levels of government, academic community, non-profit organizations and other bodies involved in public affairs and, despite their relatively young age, already have found themselves as professionals of their business, as well as are interested in building democracy, a market economy and the rule of law. The moderators also informed present about the features and requirements for participation in the program2018. In particular, this year the program supports such areas as local community governance, rule of law, legislation development, development of non-governmental organizations and education.

«Культурні відмінностіСША та Європи»

20 травня 2018 р. у Інформаційно-ресурсному центрі міжнародного партнерства у рамках тижня Європи «Європа: єдність у різноманітті» відбулося засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог» за темою «Культурні відмінностіСША та Європи». Волонтер Центру Маргарита Тимченко разом з учасниками обговорили наступні питання: які чинники впливають на розвиток культури в Європі, США та Україні? що є складовими кожної культури? які європейські, американські та українські традиції є найцікавішими для людей? чи змінюються культура та звичаї з часом? та ін.

Також під час засідання присутні обговорили прикмети, прислів’я та ідіоми про традиції в Україні та Сполучених Штатах Америки, Англії, Німеччини, Франції та Італії. Учасники засідання переглянули відеоролики, подискутували щодо важливості поваги до релігійної належності кожного народу.

Гості заходу поділилися враженнями від подорожей до різних країн, порівняли менталітет та спосіб життя,визначили найцікавіші українські звичаї для іноземців. У ході обговорення учасники зустрічі дійшли висновку, що культура–це дуже складна, багаторівнева система. Кожна нація, кожен народ, навіть кожна соціальна група мають свої звичаї, що виробилися протягом багатьох століть і освячені віками. Звичаї народу – це ті прикмети, за якими розпізнається народ не тільки в сучасному, а і в його історичному минулому.

«Cultural differences between the United States and Europe»

On May 20, 2018, in the center of international partnership within the framework of the Europe Week «Europe: Unity in Diversity» celebration was held the meeting of the English Dialogue Club «Cultural Differences of the USA and Europe». The Volunteer Center Margarita Timchenko, together with the participants, discussed the following issues: What factors influence the development of culture in Europe, the United States and Ukraine? Which are the components of each culture? What European, American and Ukrainian traditions are most interesting for people? Do culture and customs change over time? Should I know the customs and traditions of the country whose language is being studied? Also during the meeting, the guests commented on a series of proverbs and idioms about the traditions of Ukraine and the United States, England and Germany, France and Italy.

The participants of the meeting reviewed the videos, discussed the importance of respect for the religious affiliation of each people. The participants of the meeting shared their impressions of traveling to different countries, compared their mentality and lifestyle, discussed the peculiarities of the kitchen, and determined the most interesting Ukrainian customs for foreigners. During the discussion, the participants of the meeting came to the conclusion that culture is a very complex, multilevel system. Every nation, even every social group has its own traditions that have evolved over many centuries and have been sanctified for centuries. The customs of the people are those signs that people recognize not only in modern times but also in their historical past.

Поетична зустріч

В обласній бібліотеці ім. О. Гмирьова реалізується локальний проект«Будь на хвилі – читай, думай, дискутуй», у рамках якого проводяться заходи «Відкритий мікрофон», завдяки яким талановиті люди Миколаївщини реалізують та презентують власну творчість – поезію, оповідання, п’єсу або музичні твори.

12 травня у Зоні вільного читання бібліотеки відбулася поетична зустріч з талановитою та відомою миколаївською поетесою, перекладачем та викладачем англійської мови Ксаною Коваленко, яка презентувала свою поезію. Гості поетичної зустрічі поспілкувалися з автором, послухали вірші, насолодилися переглядом буктрейлерів до збірок поетеси «Книга ангелов и стрекоз», «Игольных дел мастер», «Сад синих яблок»таприємно провели суботній вечір у компанії людей, що мають спільні інтереси.

Poetic meeting

In the Mykolaiv Oblast Universal Scientific Library named after them. O. Hmyryov is implementing the local project «Be on the Wave - Read, Think, Discuss», within the framework of which the cycle of «Open Microphone» events is being conducted, in which talented people of the Mykolaiv region implement and present their own creativity - poetry, stories, plays or musical compositions .

On May 12a poetry meeting with talented and well-known Mykolaiv poet, translator and English teacher Ksana Kovalenko, who presented her own poetry, was held in the Free Library Reading Zone.

Guests of the poetic meeting listened to high-quality poetry, talked with the author, enjoyed the revision of the bootrailers to the collections of poems by the poet «The Book of Angels and Dragonflies», «The Needlework Master», «The Garden of the Blue Apple» and spent a pleasant Saturday night at the company of people, having common interests.

6 травня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог» на тему «Майстерність» за участю волонтера Олега Попова.

Відвідувачі обговорили поняття «впевненість», дізналися, як бути успішними під час публічних виступів, як досягти гарних результатів у вивченні іноземних мов, читанні та аналізі книг тощо.

Присутні висловили свою точку зору щодо розбіжностей між талантом, обдарованістю і наполегливістю, свідомим навчанням та навмисною практикою. Також вони взяли участь у грі «Створіть слово» та поділилися своїм власним досвідом у досягненні гарних результатів у різних сферах життя.

Члени клубу дійшли висновку, що за хорошим результатом стоїть ретельна і наполеглива робота.

22 квітня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог». Обговорюючи тему «Бізнес», учасники разом з лідером клубу Владом Середою, висловлювалися щодо різних сфер бізнесу не тільки в Україні, а й за кордоном.

Активну участь у дискусії взяли американські відвідувачі, зупиняючись на політичній ситуації та можливостях для бізнесу в ЄС та США.

Найцікавішим було створення міні-проектів з презентацією власного бізнес-плану та його реалізацією. Лідер засідання поділився з учасниками власним досвідом щодо розвитку свого бізнесу та його специфіки.

«Business»

A regular meeting of the English Dialogue Club «Dialogue» took place on April 22 in the Library Resource Center «Window on America». Discussing the topic «Business», the participants, together with the club's leader Vlad Sereda, spoke on different spheres of business not only in Ukraine but also abroad. American visitors took an active part in the discussion, focusing on the political situation and opportunities for business in the EU and the US.

The most interesting was the creation of mini-projects with the presentation of its own business plan and its implementation. The meeting leader shared with the participants their own experience in developing their business and its specifics.

12 квітня за ініціативою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» відбулася інформаційно-розважальна програма «Летимо у космос», присвячена Всесвітньому дню авіації та космонавтики.

Під час заходу учасники обговорили англійською мовою основні напрямки діяльності Національного управління з аеронавтики і дослідження космічного простору (США), перспективи розвитку космічних технологій в Україні, переглянули та обговорили ряд цікавих відео за темою заходу. Окрім того, гості заходу взяли участь у вікторині «Космос», іграх «Летимо на Марс», «Створи свою планету» та «Чорна дірка».

Учасники залишилися у захваті від спільного польоту у космос!

Information and entertainment program «Let's fly into space»

April 12 at the initiative of the Library Resource Center «Window on America»an information-entertaining program «Let's Go to Space» was held, which was dedicated to the World Aviation Day and Astronautics.

During the event participants learned interesting facts and discussed the main areas of activity of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (USA), prospects of space technology development in Ukraine, reviewed and discussed a number of interesting videos in English on the theme of the event. In addition, they took part in the Kosmos quiz, «Let's fly to Mars», «Create your planet» and «Black hole».

Відкриття фотовиставки «Інша сторона раю»

10 квітня за ініціативою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» відбулося відкриття фотовиставки Маріанни Глинської «Інша сторона раю», що експонується у рамках проекту «Мандрівна галерея» від Американського дому у Києві.

Фотохудожниця вперше приїхала до США у 2009 р., отримавши стипендію Фулбрайта для вивчення фотографії, але, окрім навчання, для неї було важливо «досліджувати» саму країну.

У своїй виставці Маріанна показує один з неблагополучних районів Філадельфії, де вона під час екскурсії зустріла різних та цікавих людей та завдяки фотографії примушує нас замислитися, чи є у них шанс на краще життя, шанс вирватися з кола проблем, що їх оточують, які у них мрії тощо. Своїми фотороботами автор підкреслює, що і в такій благополучній країні, як США, є типові і для інших країн світу проблеми, що потребують уваги та вирішення. Рай є недоступним та недосяжним для багатьох.

Дана виставка демонструватиметься у бібліотеці до 26 квітня, то ж запрошуємо усіх охочих долучитися до ознайомлення.

Opening of the photo exhibition «The Other Side of Paradise»

April 10, 2018 in the Mykolaiv Regional Universal Scientific Library named after O. Hmyryov at the initiative of the Library Resource Center «Window on America» was the opening of the photo exhibition Marianna Glynska «Other Side of Paradise», which is exhibited as part of the «Gallery on the Go» project from the American House in Kyiv.

The photographer first came to the United States in 2009, receiving a Fulbright scholarship to study photography, but besides studying, it was important for her to «explore» the country.

In her exhibition, Marianna is just showing one of the disadvantaged districts of Philadelphia, where she met different and interesting people during the excursion, and makes us wonder if they have a chance for a better life, a chance to escape from the circle of problems that surround them, which in their dreams and so on.

According to her photos, in such a prosperous country as the United States, there are typical problems for the rest of the world that require attention and resolution. Paradise is unattainable and inaccessible to many.

This exhibition will be shown in the library until April 26th, but we invite all those who wish to join the exhibition.

Зустріч з учасником програми академічних обмінів імені Фулбрайта Беном Мозесом

28 березня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася зустріч з американським документалістом, продюсером, письменником, режисером та учасником програми академічних обмінів імені Фулбрайта Беном Мозесом (США). Мозес був виконавчим директором, відповідальним за телевізійне виробництво та програмування для General Electric, виконавчим продюсером афілійованої компанії ABC-TV у Вашингтоні (округ Колумбія), продюсером для Young & Rubicam Advertising (Нью-Йорк).

Гість поділився своїми знаннями та поглядами на журналістику, кіно та телебачення. Також Бен показав кілька коротких витягів з його фільмів.

Учасники ставили різні запитання Бену та виразили надію на подальші зустрічі з ним.

Mykolaiv Window on America Center had the meetingwith an American documentary, producer, writer, director and participant of Fulbright program Ben Moses (USA) on the 28th of March

Moses has been the executive in charge of television production and programming for General Electric, the executive producer of the ABC-TV affiliate in Washington, DC, and was a producer for Young & Rubicam Advertising in New York.

The guest shared his knowledge and views on journalism, film and television with his 40 years of Hollywood experience and teaching at leading US universities. Ben showed few short excerpts from his films.

Also, participants gave different questions to Benand got answers to them.

Життя та робота за кордоном»

25 березня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог». Під час обговорення теми «Життя та робота за кордоном» учасники разом з лідером клубу Владом Середою поділилися власним досвідом щодо особливостей роботи у різних країнах світу та розглянули сучасні сфери праці та можливості для бізнесу в ЄС та США. Найцікавішим було обговорення навчальних програм у Сполучених Штатах Америки та проблем імміграційної ситуації у Китаї. Лідер засідання поділився з учасниками власним досвідом роботи за кордоном та розповів про подорож Німеччиною.

Серед учасників, присутніх на заході, були представники з Канади, США та Аргентини, тому обговорення пройшло дуже цікаво тазмістовно.

«Life and work abroad»

Window on America Centre had the English Speaking Club the on the 25th of March. Our visitors discussed the topic «Life and work abroad» with our leader club Vlad Segeda. The participants discussed career opportunities in several countries around the world. American visitors had a great share to add regarding political situation regarding work and business opportunities in the EU, and the U.S. We discussed illegal immigration situation in China and study programs in the United States. Vlad told them a story about work and travel program in Germany and shared the specifics.

We had representatives from Canada, the USA, and Argentina.

«Миколаїв, що читає»

19 березня у Зоні вільного читанняобласноїбібліотеки відбувся захід «Миколаїв, що читає» у рамках локального проекту «Будь на хвилі – читай, думай, дискутуй». Гостями заходу цього разу стали діти та вчитель Миколаївської загальноосвітньої школи І-ІІІ ступенів № 7. Вони познайомилися з відомою письменницею, головою Миколаївської обласної організації Національної спілки письменників України Вірою Іванівною Марущак, , яка вголос прочитала власні казки – «Чіпа та її друзі» й «Їжачок-школярик та його друзі».

Саме у березні, коли так привітно світить весняне сонце,розпочався Всеукраїнський тиждень дитячого читання. Свято дитячої книги подарувало дітям та гостям гарні враження та чудовий настрій.

Серед безлічі книжок – давніх та сучасних, серйозних та веселих – найкращі написані для дітей. Давайте разом будемо прищеплювати любов до книги з раннього дитинства, читати казки, вірші та оповідання.

«Reading Mykolaiv»

March 19 at 12.00 in the comfortable free reading zone in the Mykolaiv Regional Scientific Library named after. O. Hmyryov was held the «Reading Mykolaiv» event within the framework of the local project «Be on the Wave - Read, Think, Discuss».

The children learned with their teacher more about the famous Ukrainian writer - the prose writer, the head of the Mykolaiv regional organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, a journalist, a teacher and a librarian, Vera Ivanovna Maruschak, who read out to children her own fairy tales "Chipa and Her Friends" and "Hedgehog -Schoolboy and his friends ".

Перший захід у рамках проекту – поетичний сейшн «Розмова» – відбувся 17 березня у Зоні вільного читання бібліотеки за участю відомих миколаївських поетів Ольги Сквірської і Макса Айдахо, які презентували власну поезію. Гостіпослухали поезію, поспілкувалися з авторами та приємно провели вечір у компанії людей, які мають спільні інтереси й налаштовані слухати і чути один одного.

The first meeting – the poetic session «Conversation» – took place on March 17 at 4:00 pm in the free reading zone of the library with the participation of famous Nikolayev poets Olga Skvirskaya and Max Idaho who presented their own poetry.

In the stylish and comfortable free reading zone, the guests listened to high-quality poetry, communicated with friends and with the authors personally, pleasantly spent the spring Saturday evening in the company of people with common interests, tuned to listen and hear each other.

Дискусія «Життя без шпаргалок»

15 березня за ініціативою бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» у рамках реалізації проекту «Основи академічної доброчесності та боротьби з плагіатом» відбулася дискусія «Життя без шпаргалок».

Учасники заходу дізналися про академічну доброчесність і важливість дотримання її принципів в академічному середовищі, обговорили види плагіату і навчилися цитуванню академічного письма. Також вони поділилися своїми думками про корупцію в українських вищих навчальних закладах та її вплив на якість освіти в Україні.

Наприкінці заходу всі учасники дійшли згоди, що сьогодні важливо бути академічно чесним, оскільки це позитивно впливає на подолання корупції у нашій державі задля кращого майбутнього українців.

Discussion «Life without cheat notes»

March 15 at the initiative of the Library Resource Center «Window onAmerica» in the framework of the project «Fundamentals of academic integrity and struggle against plagiarism» had a discussion «Life without cheat sheets».

Participants learned about the academic integrity and the importance of adhering to the principles of academic integrity in the academic environment, discussed the types of plagiarism and learned to quote academic writing. They also shared their thoughts on corruption in Ukrainian higher education institutions and their impact on the quality of education in Ukraine.

At the end of the event, all participants agreed that today it is important to be academically honest, as it positively influences the overcoming of corruption in our country for the better future of Ukrainians, especially young people.

«Приховані спогади»

4 березня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог».

Учасники разом з лідером клубу Яною Алімовою обговорили тему «Приховані спогади», згадуючи багато цікавих історій про примирення. Найцікавішим обговоренням було знайти загальні для всіх людей цінності та погодитися з ними.

Серед учасників, присутніх на заході, були представники з КанадитаСША, тому обговорення та обмін досвідом виявилися дуже цікавими та змістовними.

«Hidden Memories»

Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club the оn the 4th of March.The topic was «Hidden Memories» with our leader Yana A.

Participants discussed a lot of interesting reconciliation issues - this is the beginning of a dialogue, not a sprint. The most interesting discussion was to find common values for all people and to agree with them.

We had representatives from Canada, the USA and of course Ukraine.

Тренінг «Основи академічної доброчесності та боротьби з плагіатом»

22 лютого за ініціативою Центру міжнародного партнерства пройшов тренінг «Основи академічної доброчесності та боротьби з плагіатом». Захід відбувся у рамках проекту «Культура академічної доброчесності: роль бібліотек», що реалізується в Україні з 2016 р. за підтримки Посольства США в Україні та Української бібліотечної асоціації.

Учасниками тренінгу були викладачі та студенти Миколаївського коледжу культури і мистецтв. Під час заходу учасники дізналися про поняття та правові засади академічної доброчесності й плагіату, безкоштовне та комерційне програмне забезпечення для перевірки текстів на плагіат, міжнародні стилі посилання та цитування у наукових роботах тощо. Також вони проаналізували ряд статей з прикладами проявів корупції та плагіату в академічному середовищі та обговорили можливі шляхи боротьби з плагіатом в університетах України.

Зацікавив учасників заходу аналіз та порівняння основних положень Кодексів честі американських та українських університетів, а також спроба розробити основні положення Кодексу честі свого коледжу та основні заходи з академічної доброчесності, що їх можна організувати.

Training «Fundamentals of academic integrity and anti-plagiarism»

On February, 22, the training «Fundamentals of academic integrity and struggle against plagiarism» was held at the initiative of the Mykolaiv Window on America Center. The event took place within the framework of the project «Culture of academic integrity: the role of libraries», which is being implemented in Ukraine since 2016 with the support of the US Embassy in Ukraine and the Ukrainian Library Association.

Students of Mykolaiv collegeCulture and Arts were the participants of the training. During the training participants learned about the notions and legal principles of academic integrity and plagiarism, free and commercial software for verifying plagiarized texts, international reference styles and citations in scientific papers, etc.

They also analyzeddifferent articles with examples of manifestations of corruption and plagiarism in the academic environment and discussed possible ways to combat plagiarism in Ukrainian universities. The participants also analyzed the main provisions of the «Honor’s Codes» from the American and Ukrainian universities and tried to elaborate the main provisions of the Honor’s Code of their college and the main activities of the company on academic integrity that can be organized.

«Тепло закоханих сердець»

15 лютого за ініціативою Інформаційно-ресурсного центру міжнародного партнерства пройшла молодіжна вечірка «Тепло закоханих сердець», що була присвячена Дню закоханих.

Захід відбувся у теплій та доброзичливій атмосфері. Учасники вечірки подивилися відео про історію виникнення Дня святого Валентина та презентацію, присвячену віршам про кохання та найвідомішим історіям кохання серед знаменитостей. Також вони пограли у цікаві інтерактивні ігри, потренувалися у написанні віршів про кохання та відгадуваливідомі англійські пісні про кохання. Найцікавішим було вибирання «Легендарної пари» серед гостей, які стали королем та королевою вечірки.

Зробивши своїми руками великий плакат під назвою «Любов у повітрі»,гості вечірки із задоволенням написали привітання своїм коханим та кожному учаснику заходу.

По закінченню вечірки відвідувачі побажали один одному кохати та бути коханими.

«The warmth of Loving Hearts»

On the 15th of February, a youth party “The warmth of Loving Hearts”, which dedicated to the day of lovers, was held at the initiative of the Information Resource Center of International Partnership.

The event took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The party’s participants watched an interesting video about the history of the St.Valentine’s day and plunged into the world of the love’s history in the past. They also played interesting interactive games, trained in writing love poems, and guessed famous English songs about love. The participants got acquainted with the presentation devoted to poems about love and the most famous love stories among celebrities. The most interesting was the choice of the "Legendary Couple" among the guests who became the king and queen of the party.

Having made a large poster called "Love in the air", the guests of the party were happy to write greetings to their loved ones, to each participant of the event. They spent an interesting time.

At the end of the party, visitors wished each other to love and be loved.

Перегляд короткометражного документального кіно

8 лютого у рамках відзначення 25-річчя діяльності Британської ради в Україні та фестивалю «Нове Британське кіно» у Центрі європейської інформації відбувся перегляд короткометражних документальних стрічок – лауреатів британської кінопремії«Бафта»2017 р. Учасниками перегляду стали активні відвідувачі бібліотеки і центру.

Присутні переглянули документальні фільми «Вечірка», «Історія кохання», «Пекельне жерло», «Надійна підтримка», «Витривала», «Спожито», а також подивилися промо-відео Британської ради та дізналися про різноманітні напрямки її діяльності у галузі культури та освіти.

Учасники дійшли висновку, що фільми порушують соціальні, екологічні,людські проблеми, що потребують якнайскорішого вирішення.

View short documentary cinema

On February 8,a review of short documentaries- winners of the Bafta British Cinema Prize in 2017 was held in the framework of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the activities of the British Council in Ukraine and the New British Film Festival in the Center for European Information. Activelibrary’s and center’s visitors became the participants of the review.

At the beginning of the review, participants reviewed the British Council's promotional videos and learned about the diverse areas of its cultural and educational activities.

The participants reviewed the documentaries «The Party», «Love Story», «Heller Vorlot», «Reliable Support», «Endured», «Consuming» and others.

Visitors came to the conclusion that all these films raise very important social, environmental and human problems that take place in different parts of our planet and require a prompt decision.

«Гроші – валюта – дрібні монети»

4 лютого у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог». Учасники разом з лідером клубу Дірком Вагнером обговорили тему «Гроші – валюта – дрібні монети». Гості заходу подискутували щодо значення грошей у житті людей та їхнього впливу на свідомість, подивилися цікаві відео та дали відповіді на хвилюючі питання стосовно грошей.

Наприкінці зустрічі лідер засідання продемонстрував учасникам власну колекцію грошей різних країн та розповів про історію їхнього виникнення.

Серед учасників заходу були представники з Канади, США та Аргентини.

«Money - Currency – Bitcoins»

Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club the оn the 4th of February. Our visitors discussed the topic «Money – Currency - Bitcoins» with our leader club Dirk Wagner. The participants discussed the importance of money in people's lives, how they affect the person's consciousness, looked interesting videos and gave answers to the exciting questions about money. The meeting leader introduced the participants to the various types of money that is in the world and told them about their occurrence.

We had representatives from Canada, the USA, Argentina and of course Ukraine.

«20000 днів на Землі»

1 лютого у рамках відзначення 25-річчя діяльності Британської ради в Україні та фестивалю «Нове Британське кіно» у Центрі європейської інформації відбувся перегляд документальної кінострічки англійською мовою «20000 днів на Землі» (2014), знятої режисерами Яном Форсісом та Джейн Поллардом. Учасниками перегляду стали активні відвідувачі бібліотеки і Центру.

На початку перегляду учасники переглянули промо-відео Британської ради та дізналися про різноманітні напрямки її діяльності у галузі культури та освіти.

Фільм «20000 днів на Землі» познайомив учасників перегляду з життям відомого рок-музиканта і письменника Ніка Кейва, який прожив довге і насичене життя і встиг стати справжньою легендою. Одного ранку він прокидається у своєму шикарному великому будинку, снідає і їде по справах. Так починаються його 20000 днів на Землі. Цей документальний фільм показав присутнім один день з життя зірки. Їм була надана унікальна можливість дізнатися більше про легендарного музиканта і зазирнути за лаштунки не тільки його творчості, але й особистого життя.

Відвідувачі дійшли висновку, що відомій людині важко, але можливо знайти баланс між творчістю та родиною.

20,000 days on Earth

On the first of the February, viewing documentary film in English «20,000 Days on Earth» (2014), filmed by Jan Forsy and Jane Pollard was held in the framework of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the activities of the British Council in Ukraine and the New British Film Festival in the Center for European Information. Library’s and Center’s Active viewers became the participants of the review.

At the beginning of the review, participants reviewed the British Council's promotional videos and learned about the diverse areas of its cultural and educational activities.

The film «20,000 Days on Earth» introduced the audience to the life of the famous rock musician and writer Nick Cave, who lived a long and busy life and made it a real legend. One morning he wakes up in his chic big house, has breakfast and goes on business. So, in this way it begins his 20,000 day on Earth. This documentary film showed the present one day from the star’s life. They were given a unique opportunity to learn more about the legendary musician and to look behind the scenes not only of his creativity, but also of his personal life.

Visitors concluded that there are many difficulties for a well-known person, but it is possible to find a balance between creativity and family.

28 січня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог». Учасники разом з лідером та учасником клубу обговорили тему «Люди потребують сенсу», згадували символічне значення багатьохречей, об’єктів, понять слів та ідей.

Також учасники обговорили цікаві статті та дали відповіді на хвилюючі питання про сенс життя.

23 січня за ініціативи бібліотечного ресурсного центру «Вікно в Америку» пройшов тренінг «Основи академічної доброчесності та боротьби з плагіатом». Захід відбувся у рамках проекту «Культура академічної доброчесності: роль бібліотек», що реалізується в Україні з 2016 р. за підтримки Посольства США в Україні та Української бібліотечної асоціації.

Учасниками тренінгу були викладачі та студенти факультету менеджменту і бізнесу ВП «Миколаївська філія Київського національного університету культури і мистецтв».

Під час тренінгу учасники дізналися про поняття та правові засади академічної доброчесності та плагіату, безкоштовне та комерційне програмне забезпечення для перевірки текстів на плагіат, міжнародні стилі посилання та цитування у наукових роботах, тощо.

Також вони проаналізували ряд статей з прикладами проявів корупції та плагіату в академічному середовищі та обговорили можливі шляхи боротьби з плагіатом в університетах України. Також учасники проаналізувалиосновні положення «Кодексів честі» американських та українських університетів та спробували розробити основні положення Кодексу честі свого університету та основні заходи компанії з академічної доброчесності, які можна організувати.

Fundamentals of academic integrity and anti-plagiarism. Training

On January 23, the training "Fundamentals of academic integrity and struggle against plagiarism" was held at the initiative of the Mykolaiv Window on America Center. «Громадянські права»

21 січня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося чергове засідання англійського розмовного клубу «Діалог». Учасники разом з лідером, учасницею програми FLEX, студенткою Чорноморського національного університету ім. Петра Могили, Юлією Хакімовою обговорили тему «У мене є мрія». Захід був приурочений до Дня Мартіна Лютера Кінга, що традиційно відзначається у США.

Під час заходу лідер згадала історію становлення громадянських прав у США, розкрила роль Мартіна Лютера Кінга в американській історії, після чого учасники подивилися та обговорили коротке відео виступу Мартіна Лютера Кінга «Я маю мрію».

Під час заходу учасники обговорили визначення і характеристики основних громадянських прав різних країн, а працюючи у групах порівняли їх. Серед учасників, присутніх на заході, були представники з України, Канади, США, Аргентини, Вірменії, тому обговорення виявилося цікавим, змістовним та ґрунтовним.

«Civil rights»

Window on America Center had the English Speaking Club the оn the 21 st of January. Our visitors discussed the topic «I have a dream» with our leader Yuliya Khakimova, participant of FLEX program, student of Petro Mohyla Blach Sea National University.

Our leader told about Martin Luther King Jr.. she told history of civil rights in the USA. At the bigining of the event they watched and discused a short video of Martin Luther King Jr. speech «I have a dream».

After that they discussed difinition and characteristics of civil (human) rights, worked in groups and compared the civil rights in different coutries because we had representatives from Canada, the USA, Argentina, Armenia and of course Ukraine.

Приготування їжі»

14 січня у бібліотечному ресурсному центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулося перше у 2018 р. засідання англійського розмовного клубу. Разом з волонтером та лідером клубу, учасницею програми для майбутніх лідерів FLEX Ольгою Челенгіровою учасники обговорили тему «Приготування їжі».

Присутні поділилися своїм досвідом і кумедними історіями з приводу приготування різних видів страв як української, так й іноземної кухні, згадали, як вони у дитячі роки допомагали батькам готувати різні страви, та поділилися своїми традиційними стравами, що готуються у родинах до певних свят.

Цікаву дискусію серед присутніх викликали питання: «Чому одні люди люблять готувати, а інші - ні?», «Хто кращі кулінари - чоловіки чи жінки?», «Хто повинен готувати в родині?» та ін.

Також учасники переглянули декілька відеороліків про кулінарні шоу.

«Cooking»

On January 14, 2018, a meeting of the English Speaking Club took place in the Library Resource Center «Window on America». Together with the volunteer and leader of the club, the participants of the program for future leaders of FLEX Olga Chelengirova discussed the topic «Cooking».

The participants shared their experiences and amusing stories about the preparation of different types of dishes, both Ukrainian and foreign cuisine, mentioned how they helped parents prepare different dishes in their infancy, and shared their traditional dishes prepared in their families for certain holidays.

An interesting discussion among the audience was raised by the following questions: «Why do some people love to cook, and others do not?», «Who are the best cooks - men or women?», «Who should cook in the family?» and others.

Participants also watched some videos about cooking shows.
